The one area where it's still relevant is disaster response, but even that is questionable. Here in Portland, the city puts a lot of effort into emergency preparedness and getting people trained on radio, but the vast majority of peopl

Specifically all the issues I raised apply in an American city that is relatively good for biking. The bike lanes are still on the road, and drivers still swerve into them, so I want heads up on that. Its also physically difficult to get co

I had a brief stint as a bike owner and the whole culture around it is maddening. If I want a car, I go to a dealership and I can find a bunch of packages and customizations and there's a dealer to help. The cars have all sorts of tech

This doesn't make sense. There are loads of people (myself included) who are intrinsically motivated to do good work. And not just in the tech industry. Look at all the volunteer opportunities, unpajd city boards, etc that people get t

Came here to say this. Seeing the horrible toll that even a small amount of drinking does is a powerful motivator. Even with just Fitbit, RHR was a clear signal. WHOOP makes it clearer. Biofeedback is underrated. I have foregone many drinks

GrapheneOS. A degree of slowness might be the extra security hardening. Not an excuse, because, aside from the built-in spyware, iOS is just as locked down, if not more so.

Ah that makes sense. I think I'm on a hairpin trigger about people saying Qualcomm chips are fast enough for consumers. Mostly because I'm frustrated and upset by their chips every single day. But I'm not a Qualcomm customer,

One aspect of C# async/await I don't ever see talked about is the ecosystem integration. Async/await was delivered after the popular .NET UI frameworks (WPF, UWP) were designed, and it shows. Trying to work with data bindings

Maybe I'm too much of a nerd, but I think quality can, in general, be defined and measured. I get that you don't like the genera of action films, and that's fine. But there are moments of the film between the laser beams firi
