Exactly. That’s the damning thing about the issue. I want people to be able to live in RVs. I don’t want them by me because of my lived experience. I can see how that’s iterated across the population. No clear avenue for success.

I don’t think that’s true. The RVs are gone and they put huge concrete blocks in the area so they can’t park any more. It’s much safer now. That fixed my local problem. Obviously the people moved somewhere else though.

The whole thing is a mess. I drive through a spot with a lot of RVs in Seattle. I’ve seen people come out of an RV, smash a driver’s window at a stoplight, and proceed to throw something which looked like chili powder in his face. I don’t w

People have always thought they could do anything. If you think this is crazy you should see some of the stuff people have been doing with cars and motorcycles for the last 5 decades.

Agreed with this. I happen to work on some Unity projects that do not have namespace and file structure in sync. Unity makes this more likely to some extent. Features like this just cause more unexpected and surprising things to happen. I a

I for one am happy with this site’s own little fads. Who knows, either AI stays with us and I’ll be glad to have got my helping here via osmosis. Or it goes away and I can reflect on this fun little quirk our community once had.

“Worst possible person” isn’t accurate but “worst person ever in the role” probably is.

This looks like it uses similar techniques to my own glass implementation: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42225481 Especially with respect to the abuse of box shadow.

I’m only guessing here but I feel like the answer is risk. There’s a big risk difference between boots-on-the-ground and flying over while pushing a button.

I would actually love if what comes out of this is that people stop trusting social media entirely and put a lot more weight into face-to-face interactions.

The way this is written is very hard to follow. It feels like intro paragraphs are missing.

I disagree that this is low quality. Blog posts are often a summaries plus opinion. I don’t think HN would ban blogs and I don’t see how this is different. It does not seem like the ‘rate my character’ paradigm you reference.

Comments aimed at Zuck’s talent always seem jealous to me. An argument can be made that he lacks a good moral compass using specific public examples but I haven’t seen any similar evidence to argue a lack of talent. I also know many folks w

I like these tools and use them on a daily basis. That being said, the claimed benefits to productivity are way overblown. I find some folks wanting to cram them into every step of the dev process like they are some panacea. They are a grea

Glass UI can look good but you need to frost it pretty heavily for usability and accessibility. I’m not seeing that here. Hopefully they turn that up before this is fully rolled out.

I’m not convinced. Illicit content is more accessible to everyone than ever before. I question the efficacy of mounting ever increasing pressure on parents to police their kids. At some points we need to help shoulder the burden as a societ

I’m not convinced by the argument. I believe porn use by minors is going up. That means they were impeded in the past more than they are impeded now. I believe age verification was a big part of that: folks were carded to buy Playboys. Sure

This is a hard situation. I don’t think minors should be exposed to porn. Hell, I think even social media has a drug-like effect best kept from minors. Age verification is the most obvious solution but comes with the downside of potentially

On balance I really like this advice. However, I think there are times when bad or lacking behavior is most appropriately called out privately. Providing critical feedback publicly is often a bad idea unless you’ve done a dress rehearsal. I

Someone in my team once used an emoji in a commit message and took down our CI. The next week I see a string of poop emojis in some pull request commit messages. I talk to the dev who wrote them and he was testing a CI fix so it doesn’t go

You really want to support different file formats to maximize support. You can have additional favicons as fallback if SVG isn’t supported. This page has some info on that: https://atlasiko.com/blog/web-development/

It reminds me to the intro to Odesza’s “A Moment Apart” album where an astronaut is up in space with a ticking sound and decides he has to fall in love with it for his sanity.
