It's certainly true that the patent system is broken. But the fact you can get away with doing something due to broken laws doesn't make it ok to do it.

While I have no idea what information investors are basing their decisions on, it's probably some evidence that Snapchat is starting to replace Facebook among some bellwether set of users. That could be a reasonable bet, depending on

I'm sure both had plenty of difficulties. There must have been lots of really good people who'd never have considered working for either of them.

It's a little early to say for sure, but I predict this will do more to hurt Apple's reputation in the tech community than anything they've done before. And that is not a good community to alienate. I would not be surprised

Unlikely given the power law distribution of startup outcomes. But if you set a threshold defining a big hit and we funded 33 of them we'd end up being one ourselves. It's conceivable we could fund 33 big hits in 30 years. Dep

It's a sign of strength in a company when the CEO can talk candidly about problems like this. Every company has problems, most worse than this, but they rarely talk about them except in the blandest, most evasive way. Conspicuous cand

Yipes, nothing like that. That's the total value of all the companies we've funded. We assume we end up with 3% on average after dilution.

No, what I do between batches is work on YC. In the very beginning we considered time between batches as time off, but YC is so big now that there's always something that needs to be done.

One interesting thing I learned from this is how highly correlated mortality from heart disease and cancer are. They're quite different types of disease, but perhaps what they have in common is that they're diseases of civilizatio
