If someone could post a link to a Google Maps view of the area, that would be interesting to see.

- evmar 13y agoThis article has a map: http://www.freep.com/article/20131018/BUSINESS06/310180105 http://www.freep.com/article/20131018/BUSINESS06/310180105 I grabbed that address and plugged it into Google Maps, so the pin here is the northern corner: https://www.google.com/maps/preview#!q=Mack+%26+St.+Jean%2C+Detroit%2C+MI&data=!1m4!1m3!1d16228!2d-82.980734!3d42.3695785!2m1!1e3!4m15!2m14!1m13!1s0x8824d46395a86267%3A0x1855ad08de3d9a8a!3m8!1m3!1d18983!2d-122.3926051!3d37.7913156!3m2!1i1215!2i1156!4f13.1!4m2!3d42.3791293!4d-82.97854&fid=7 https://www.google.com/maps/preview#!q=Mack+%26+St.+Jean%2C+... Edit: and according to Google Maps, "Indian Village" (home of the developer) is literally the southwestern edge of the area. PS: I know nothing about Detroit, this is all just looking at a map.
- ChuckMcM 13y agoOk, I had the weird experience of looking at the street view map, wanting to move forward and just, out of habit, used the WASD keys and damn if they didn't work just like they "should". Reminded me of the first time I used vi(1) and wanted to move the cursor and went with the rogue(7) keys and that just worked. Games as usability training tools for the win I guess.
- GeneralMayhem 13y agoVi and Rogue were both influenced by the hardware of the old ADM terminals, which had the arrows printed on HJKL.
- zenocon 13y agoThat map is not quite right. I live not far from there.
- logn 13y agoConsider using and editing this map: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?#map=12/42.3858/-83.0366 http://www.openstreetmap.org/?#map=12/42.3858/-83.0366
- kdazzle 13y agoFor reference, Belle Isle, which is across the street from the southern edge of the project, is a huge park owned by the city. There's deer and stuff living on it. It was recently the subject of a conservative utopian fantasy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belle_Isle_Park http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belle_Isle_Park http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/15/belle-isle-commonwealth-city-state-detroit_n_2478922.html http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/15/belle-isle-commonwe...
- jlgreco 13y ago> "The lots being sold to Hantz Woodlands are in an area bounded by Van Dyke on the west, St. Jean on the east, Mack on the north, and Jefferson on the south. Although the Indian Village district lies within that area, no lots in Indian Village are included." (http://www.freep.com/article/20121211/NEWS01/121211061/detroit-city-council-hantz-woodlands-land-sale http://www.freep.com/article/20121211/NEWS01/121211061/detro...) Not sure how to make this a nice link / highlight a region: https://www.google.com/maps/preview#!q=St+Jean+St%2C+Detroit%2C+MI&data=!1m4!1m3!1d12513!2d-82.9878108!3d42.366848!4m15!2m14!1m13!1s0x8824d461f037a9f5%3A0xb4ea010ffb45778c!3m8!1m3!1d12512!2d-82.9821307!3d42.3698932!3m2!1i1512!2i815!4f13.1!4m2!3d42.3762259!4d-82.9766306 https://www.google.com/maps/preview#!q=St+Jean+St%2C+Detroit...

- adamfeldman 13y agoWaiting on Google to approve the edit to the map: http://fld.mn/HfX4 http://fld.mn/HfX4. I used the street boundaries in this[1] article; it's the same boundaries other commenters quoted. [1] http://www.mlive.com/news/detroit/index.ssf/2013/06/hantz_woodlands_billed_as_worl.html#/0 http://www.mlive.com/news/detroit/index.ssf/2013/06/hantz_wo...
- zenocon 13y agoYou nailed it there -- that is the correct location.
- cfinke 13y agoAlthough the entire section isn't going to be woodlands: Hantz Woodlands' goal is to have at least 15,000 trees planted and 50 blighted structures torn down in two years on parcels of land that weave in and out of existing neighborhoods. So it wouldn't be appropriate for Google to accept that edit.
