How do you replace the technical subreddits though? Like the Rust subreddit has really good discussion and it's harder to keep up on Zulip, etc.

Aren't there some student cities, etc. like that there? Even Seattle and NYC had parts that were very walkable, especially compared to LA.

Yeah, I don't understand all the negativity here. I met one of my friends on TikTok, on a post about an event going on in the city (when I'd just moved). It's much more social than Instagram, etc. IMO.

Salaries are terrible in France - a senior dev earns maybe 60k euros (~60k USD).

It's just American exceptionalism and protectionism. Same for trying to ban Turkey selling drones, Europe using Huawei, Europe buying Russian gas instead of American LNG, etc.

Payment isn't the only issue though, and it's often complicated internationally if the developer isn't already a freelancer, etc. You really need actual programmers contributing. Ideally large enterprises would give time dedi

Whilst I support nuclear power, it's not the main issue, but the lack of progress in electrification of industry and homes. A lot of processes and heating still use natural gas directly, and that is what is causing the threat of indust

Yeah, like as a senior engineer I get $85k, that leads to a take home of about $4500 per month. Mortgage and debt payments are ~$2500 to start with. And now that buys less and less. We can't afford to be playing world police or pretend

We can use coal for electricity, the issue is natural gas itself for industry and domestic heating.

Italy can get gas from Algeria IIRC - like Spain does from Nigeria too. But the referendum doesn't matter right now anyway, there is no way to rush through electrification of domestic heating and industry and build functional nuclear p

Electricity isn't the issue, several countries have re-opened coal plants to deal with that (also from what I understand the nuclear plants can't just be turned back on, they are several stages through decommissioning and were alr
