What top tier countries? The US is the wealthiest country in the world by miles. It's had the highest GDP every single year for over 100 years continuously. That amount of capital is phenomenal, and part of why Americans enjoy salaries

Yeah, and for most working professionals you get sweet FA. Like here in Sweden we pay 40% income tax, 25% sales tax and still have to pay about $30 for each doctor visit. Dentistry is not included in the state health coverage. Neither are a

It's the banks, not the state. But it's partly due to the Bostadsrätt system where you own like the right to an apartment in a co-op rather than the actual physical building. Renting in Sweden is completely terrible (unless you&#x

In Sweden you can get an 100-year mortgage (pretty much interest-only), it used to be common for people buying for just a year or two and then selling at a higher price. You can only fix the interest rate for 3-10 years at a time though.

What does "not enough money" even mean? Those people still live and survive - they're just optimising ad spend instead of working on engineering problems or medical research, etc.

But we're reaching a point where we're hitting the limits of Physics in many areas. Like it's hard to imagine an even faster passenger aircraft than the Concorde for example.

My grandad was born in 1925 - he remembers them installing the electric streetlights in Birmingham. The main difference seemed to be car traffic and tourism. It's just unrecognisable nowadays (and even from the 1980s tbh). Such a revol

And that was offset by the Green Revolution. The current fertiliser shortages might undo some of that, there's a real chance we see severe famines in Lebanon, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Yemen, and other countries next year.

Yeah, I agree, that's why we need population control everywhere. The US is at a huge scale though, and that mining is probably going towards building American SUVs, military equipment, etc.

I'm pretty skeptical on electric planes (it's hard to generate that much thrust) but the others are all great improvements. Still slowing population growth would be the easiest gradual way of dealing with resource and environmenta

Because you live in the wealthiest country in the world (over 100 continuous years of highest GDP) with high salaries and lots of habitable space (from exterminating the native populace). But that's not sustainable - the US has the hig

It's a shame as it's one of my favourite films. It's similar for books too - so few down-to-Earth action books like that like The Day Of The Jackal or maybe The Bourne Identity and Red Storm Rising.

What's the alternative though? Paying to keep people in prison forever? Prison labour is bad as it undercuts workers and unions outside prison. Perhaps organ donation and medical trials is the most utilitarian?

There is unfortunately a fair amount of intrinsic exchange value in its use for illegal trades (drugs, CP, etc.) and tax evasion. So it won't ever drop to 0. Unless governments actually start to do their job and stop all transactions

The 1950s were a boom-time for the USA, but the UK still had rationing for example, France and Spain had massive refugee housing and a lot of homelessness. Nevermind China still recovering from occupation and civil war, etc. There is absolu
