This is not correct. The WGSL is renamed from Tint, which is a Google's proposal for a shading language, in agreement with all parties.

That's true, but also a reflection of the whole WebGPU standardization process. It tries to be low-level enough to be performant yet still human writable. I agree it's tricky, but just because it's hard to formulate the concr

Can totally relate to this. A casual office-pong player, one time walked into a Chinese pong club to get my technique corrected... Ended up totally re-learning how to play in a course of 2 years, similarly humiliated by young students of th

Good to know! I'll look for an OS written in Rust elsewhere then. Fuchsia is interesting, but could be much more so.

Heh, I was hoping for the same, but in reality I get sleep issues quite often, subpar battery life, and overall unpolished experience... on AMD with Ubuntu.

Amazing work! I'm excited to try out the Plasma variant. So far have been using Budgie, and quite happy with it. The main annoyance is package repository. Not only it's humble, but the maintainers have really strong views on what

Why even show ads? Perhaps, it would be easier to just have Alphabet spawning a company doing SEO that triggers the right strings of the Google page ranking algorithm, thus successfully putting stuff on top of search. Google still receives

You must be reading this wrong. The quoted text says: 1. WebGPU name was taken from Apple 2. Apple initiated the working group in W3C (by refusing to work with Khronos). What this does NOT say is: - Apple's prototype was t

Current motion is maybe we'll get a Queue::setBufferSubData and setTextureSubData, or not. And even if we get them, it's problematic to allow the copy to be direct if this part of the buffer isn't used (while some other part

You can play with the native implementations on Linux for now, such as wgpu and Dawn, with an ability to build for the web in the future.

It means, I'll be happy to look at the code, contribute, even build without going through the hoops on every platform... It means the thing is lightweight and fast. And also - unlikely to crash or eat my drive because of sloppy UB.

I recently implemented the painters algorithm in a modern-ish way: using atomic ops in a compute shader. That's one of the rendering techniques for the terrain in https://github.com/kvark/vange-rs

They just want to make sure we aren't depending on Khronos too much. It's a reasonable thing to want for the group. As for Firefox, the WebGPU implementation uses the infrastructure we have for Vulkan Portability, and so consuming

Arguing and downvoting is just how people and internet work. This has nothing to do with Mozilla culture. Rest assured the engineers of Mozilla are doing their best to make the product superior, independent of the principles difference.
