Maybe I’m misunderstanding the issue, but how did the people losing money here make speculative investments? Is there some expected return on opening an account with SVB? I thought these were just normal depositor accounts being wiped out.

As we've seen with our space probes, its difficult enough to land something on another planet and have it survive, nevermind equipping it with any offensive or defensive capabilities. Maybe these aliens are in the same place. They can

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/-ika Not sure if this is what the author is going for, but -ika appears to be a czech suffix indicating a study or branch of science. Which makes this kind of a cool name, in my opinion.

You’re right. You’ve been around here long enough to know better. Your comment was downvoted and flagged though, which seems like the appropriate outcome.

What does “treating a fork like a spoon” mean exactly? Additionally, many, if not most, foods don’t require a knife to be eaten at all. I can’t remember the last time I brought a knife to the kitchen table.

5-10 years ago I would have said yes to either SpaceX or Tesla, if my skills were aligned with what they were working on. I was younger, and the chance to change the world would have justified the lower pay. But working at Twitter isn’t a c

I've had good experiences with Hired in my current and previous job searches. While there are a couple of companies (the usual suspects) who use it to send out the same recruiter spam that they send elsewhere, I've mostly gotten t

It's a really weak article in general. 500 words about a single anecdote with no supporting data or much useful context at all, but which manages to name drop two companies and their founders (one of which is presumably the sponsor of

I hope so too, but hope isn't a sustainable solution. Even if the engineers building this quit in protest, how hard is it to find someone to put a web interface in front of a mySQL database?. We need to encode privacy rights in law, an

I didn't mention small towns. My concern is primarily with the large cities in the United States that have functionally useless or second-class public transportation systems. Places like Phoenix, Houston, and Los Angeles that collect

For sure rural jobs aren’t a great fit for public transportation. But most people commuting to work by car are commuting to offices, retail stores, restaurants, and other places in semi-densely populated areas that could be better served

I’m with you on this. I received a Quest as a Christmas gift and basically went from 0 to 100 on VR and the Metaverse. It finally makes sense to me. Like you say, there are some issues with the tech, but they’ll be resolved in time, and i

I ran a very similar experiment. I don't recall the exact dates, but something like 2016 - 2018, and left Wealthfront as a result. I was under the threshold that incurs management fees, but Wealthfront was outperformed by S&P, at l
