It is possible to program in java without allocating GC at all. (if you do not count class loader and some other system stuff). Use Unsafe and primitive (on stack) variables. Peter has some nice demos on his blog.

Hm, stockholm syndrome? We live in place with better climate than California, 100 meters from sea. Our total monthly expenses for 3 member family, are probably lower than most people in SV pay for rent. We rent nice house, insurances, schoo

Why lack of empathy? Most people here share the pain. I know guy with "good job" who lives in van. I personally would love to come to SV, but simply can not effort it with family.

Been there. Large bookmarks with mobile website versions. Adblock proxy on wifi router (even /etc/hosts blocking could do). Advanced version is GreaseMonkey with some scripts/styles to customize often used websites.

If you are willing to pay... I get eye test and new lenses every year, and pay around 80 euro for both. New frame is around 70 euro.

I know astronomical and spherical projections well, but there is whole new world of 'architectural' projections: http://hugin.sourceforge.net/docs/manual/Projections.html

It is amazing how small relatively isolated team can create awesome product. I am trying something similar, but its very hard. Antirez is either genius or works 20 hours a day.

Aluminum is not best material either, it bends too easily. EDIT: aluminium bends too easily compared to other material. It does not have best structural integrity for its weight. Magnesium alloy, carbon fiber reinforced plastic or titanium
