I think this is a strawman. It can be true that meat provides a lot of good nutrition. It can be true that the human cooking/eating of meat led to better nutrition and development in ancient times (when people ate less of it). It can a

It's not that the line is drawn 'in theory'. It's that they think they've drawn it in the right place (usually humans on one side and everything else on the other). I think this is pretty empirically wrong and I don

I think you’re arguing a bit of a strawman and you and the person you replied to probably agree with each other. The accumulated debts, and helping out each other makes sense given the needs of the community and dependence on each other for

New versions of the new design have a raised white circle around the menu button which makes it obvious which side is the top (if you couldn’t tell from feeling the trackpad). People on HN complain about this a lot, but I’ve used it for yea

I’d probably do something that’s a large dial like an Apple Watch crown for volume that takes up most of a square remote and you push down for mute/unmute. The other buttons I’d have on it would be power, and input switch. I’d have an

I don’t think so - Apple has a better supply chain, more committed users, more scale, etc.

Maybe one that isn’t tied to a box that stuffs ads in the UI?

Agreed - Apple could easily charge 3-5k. The LG TVs I mentioned cost that much. They could offer three sizes. Mini, Normal, Max. They could use it as a jumping off point to own the “living room” if they wanted.

Yes - I wish Apple would just make a TV. Call it a living room screen or a living room monitor or something. Make it OLED, dumb TV, instant on, Apple TV box plugs in. Separate box with front facing ports that connects to screen with one cab

Sometimes it introduces you to new people though that are interesting to follow (usually because people in your network liked their post or something). I find this generally valuable. If you want to be extreme about it, you can put everyone

Yeah I’m with you that even in the categories I mentioned there are problems. System76 comes up a lot, but to be blunt they seem awful. Bad resolution displays, generally terrible build, bezels, etc. I think there’s a market for a really go

Neat - I wonder how it’ll turn out. It’s weird how little there is in the laptop space that’s actually good. Macs, Thinkpads, maybe Dell XPS? Everything else sucks. It’d be cool to have another high quality option.

I agree that confidence is important. The other stuff does matter too though. It’s better to recognize that rather than pretend it’s all confidence. The girl that canceled the date didn’t do so because I wasn’t confident, she did so because

Yeah I think this is a general truth (and it’s the inverse for women, where it starts easy and gets a little harder). Early twenties dating for men is hard, particularly in a skewed place like the bay area. If I had to guess it’d be about s

This is a good example of why I’m long Amazon and short Google. Though Jeff Bezos stepping down worries me a bit. Google doesn’t care that much about their customers. They mint money from their web ad monopoly. They don’t have aligned incen

The short and true answer is that it sucks, but it gets better as you get older. I ended up going shaved head at 25, late twenties were better than early twenties (also I think that's just generally true for men and dating). The other

This is bad reasoning. The existence of balding celebrities does not mean that balding has no affect on sexual attractiveness. A lot of celebrities are famous for reasons other than attractiveness. Balding and bald are also different (which

Sure, in that specific case I’d agree it’s a flag. But there’s a general truth to sexual attractiveness in there, and it’s better to accept the reality as it is and adapt. Sometimes it's better to just learn the dance: https:/&#x
