This is a stunning clip, especially given how instrumental JCal and David Saks were on twitter calling for a bank run and subsequent bailout.

This isnt the truth. 10% of their portfolio was worthless VC loans.

You would guess all you could need in the future is a code base, and a video of the website working in action

What people arent saying: VCs received cheap loans and financial services from SVB if they got their portfolio companies to bank with SVB. There were in some sense backdoor deals, which resulted in these odd loans and bad portfolios. It was

Meta pushed up pay for the whole industry. They also created the most important frameworks: React and PyTorch. For everyone hating on the company, they did more for software engineers than any other company. The most meritocratic and highly

Alexa is a complicated rube goldberg machine of ML models. For instance, when asking, "play songs by michael jackson", it runs an entity resolution query to figure out who michael jackson is, and then retrieve his music. There are

Theres a simple equation that I think is true: Time to integrate LLM into existing home assistant >= Time to build home assistant from scratch using LLM. They lost it in a very simple way: Research Scientists and Managers refusing to let

Sure, but as a junior engineer on one of those teams, some senior engineer thats been there a decade will shoulder you out of the best learning opportunities. Also, that stuff was invented more than a decade ago in most cases. Very differen

I bet you alot of the engineers at openAI doing impactful work are just a few years out of school, if that. Big tech is filled with bureaucrats

This is legitimately filling me with anxiety. I'm not an "AI hype guy". I work on and understand machine learning. But these scores are shocking and it makes me nervous. Things are about to change

Personally feel that knowledge graphs will disappear. Currently work on a large knowledge graph at FAANG. Feels like working on an antiquated abstraction layer that needed to exist due to lack of ML sophistication. With LLMs, I think knowle

I always think about how impossible it will be for GCP to compete with AWS. The work culture at AWS has been brutal for a decade. High standards for work, and insane amounts of oncall/ops reduction. A burn and churn machine that has cr

I worked on core ML systems in alexa :) My knowledge is that I know how these systems work, and why its so hard to get them to work properly.

You sound like you have no clue what youre talking about. The limitations of alexa and complaints about alexa are really complaints about the limits of NLP, which have just been expanded.

Theres another way to view alexa. It is in 100m+ homes. Its limited right now due to the historical limits of NLP technology. But with the advent of LLMs, amazon has a chance to dramatically upgrade the capabilities of alexa, which is alrea

This is just a natural reality of capitalism. Some "workers" produce much more value than others. A coder making 150-200k is completely replaceable, a widely recognized public figure is not. Shouldn't be shocking, whats shock

Whats crazy is how embedded in the democratic party his parents are. Its hard for me to imagine they didn't have some kind of input on all this "donating". They are also top lawyers, so they would have known this was illegal.

You should take a two week vacation before making any decision like this. Also I would say nothing about your thoughts on this to your cofounders. Just take a break, come back and get ready to execute. If you feel the same in three more mon
