Not only downtown. I’ve been living in the Castro (Castro & Market) for a decade. 30% of commercial real estate closed / boarded-up, plenty of tents around and see people smoking crack every day. Not even trying to hide. It was not

PCs and smartphones were both proven markets regardless of market size in a way VR is not today. People owned smartphones (blackberries and palm) and PCs, use them a lot and had established (not speculative) use cases. Clear market signal w

Great news indeed. Announced support though is only experimental (disabled by default behind flag). It'll probably take some time post launch of Vision Pro to release enabled by default.

Difference is that Apple enters categories that have already product-market fit (PCs, MP3 players, laptops, smartphones, fitness trackers). Only exception probably being the iPad. VR doesn’t have product-market fit except for some games gen

Yeah. Apple enters categories that already have product-market fit. It outsources market research to first movers. VR has only significant traction for a handful of games. iPad is indeed an exception while watches and fitness trackers were

I’ve seen cool demos and proof of concept of professional tools but don’t know of any that have traction and good retention. Do you have examples of tools with significant adoption?

Don’t have precise answers to your questions but let me reframe. AAA games that pushes HW to the limit is a small fraction of all content. Among most popular content on Quest you have VR Chat, Gorilla Tag, Beat Saber, Job Simulator: Indie t

Eventually but unlikely in the short term. Web APIs commoditize platform and hardware features. Browser content doesn’t contribute to user lock-in and takes away from exclusive apps where Apple generates revenue. We’ll probably see WebXR wh

Yes. Thinking about what factors make people choose plane over train and address those would have been better. People will freely choose the better option.

Many bought, few use them. Only a handful of games have significant traction afaik. VR today is just at most a very small niche of gaming.

Yeah. Apple enters when there’s clear product-market and out-executes everybody. For the watch, notice that fitness trackers (Fitbit) were already getting popular.

Yes. Never been easier to build a browser than today with great open source engines. Writing an engine from scratch is the hard part. Extremely labour-intensive to build and then maintain. People usually conflate both. edit: clarify

Presumably a lot of value is missing from face to face interactions on the Internet. AR / VR are a better approximation: body language, shared 3D space… Just stating VR / AR selling point. I’m personally not fully convinced.
