Lab grown meat is being touted as more sustainable, since you don't have to raise an entire animal. Also, wouldn't lab grown meat be more precise, like with normal chickens you have no idea what exactly what they ate, or how they

To me it's more about people waking up and realizing exactly how much and what data is collected on them. Private messages, texts, things facebook has no business having etc.

It's like every time something new is created, everyone gasps at how expensive it is. Surprise, new technology costs more. I bet cars were prohibitively expensive when the first came out, but now you can get a used one for very cheap.

Right, but surely you don't believe that robotics is stuck where it is, we haven't quite figured out everything, but it's still a new field.

Either way, customers leave, advertisers leave. Also, while I do like the expression "if you're not a customer, you're a product", it does not change the actual definition of the word customer.

If you do something users don't like, they will leave if they want to, or else they don't care. > How do non-ad-buying users matter as customers to Facebook They are literally all Facebook has, eyeballs.

Any company that places the wants of the shareholders above the customers risks losing their customer base (see Facebook).

This line of reasoning seems to forget that the ultimate control belongs to the customer. Thus we see Facebook taking a big hit for collecting personal information people assumed was private.

In the case you cite, advertisers were piggy backing on the feminist movement to sell cigarettes to women because there was a stigma against women smoking. In what way did this harm democracy? Cigarettes are dying off, because of scientific

I cede that point, I tend to ignore advertising, and people do debate whether _internet_ advertising works. However, I don't think that advertising is enough to remove the democratic component from capitalism.
