To use 2fa on github you need a mobile phone. Do you give every enployee a mobile phone, or do you ask your employees to use their own personal phones? Asking them to use their personal phones seems like a very bad solution. Many software c

As a freelancer, this also just doesn’t fit with my personal experience. When a client wants an NDA, they send one. I rarely/never care. I’ll check over the language, but they don’t want to use my NDA in general. Invoicing, time tracki

I knew a company a bit like this once. The CEO would hire people very quickly. In most cases they didn’t have the appropriate skill set, and had personality issues. They’d have a massive negative impact on the culture of this early stage st

Many things are true on the level of groups, but it doesn’t mean that it’s a good idea to apply them as general rules on an individual level. Women maybe weaker than men in general. There are however many women stronger than many men. Where

I think it’s absolutely conceivable that a male manager might fire a male employee for making a lewd joke. The other things? From both men and women I would guess the appropriate response is to inform the commenter that their remark is no o

Those sound like somewhat mild examples of the sort of sexual harassment many women suffer. But the behavior you describe, I would not consider acceptable. I personally would not want to work somewhere that was considered “ok” and would pro

Yes, it happens. In my view what your describing is also unacceptable behavior. In the past I would have overlooked it, at this point I wouldn’t accept it and I’d ask her to stop and mention it to her manager/ my manager (or HR). I hav

I don’t consider these things just plain fine. I’d consider many of them somewhat offensive even if they came from a friend, regardless of gender: * Telling someone a very funny, yet lewd joke that you just thought up * Telling someone they

In many (most?) cases shares are not transferable in this way. If they are, there is often some kind of private market and the shares have an actual real value. This makes it much more sensible to value them near zero.

Why do you think you can’t? Have you tried? If you have a business that looks somewhat like Apple’s does (producing goods in China and selling internationally). I don’t think it would be very hard to keep revenue out of the US tax system. I

Personally I think interviewees should be financially compensated for interviews. The typical view is that they’re being compensated with a “chance for a job”.

Many people seem comfortable allowing their companies to treat them as low value commodities and will do anything asked of them. In general I don’t exactly think like this. I do the work within the scope of what I’ve been hired to do. I’m l

Maybe in general that’s true. In my case even if I feel it’s a nice place to work, I wouldn’t like being on of the spot in front of my boss/coworkers. In a one-to-one interview it would be fine. Which was perhaps more the context of yo

It’s a fair question, but if you asked me that in front of my boss or coworkers I would likely immediately take a disliking to you because you put me in an awkward situation where there are few easy ways to answer honestly.

If your backend dev, maybe the laptops I use (IBM x220s) would work for you? I find they fly with Linux/an SSD. They're also pretty cheap (50 to 100USD). So I buy a few at a time so I can leave one at the office etc.
