I agree, I was mostly trying to play devils advocate and try and figure out any potentially positive reason. As an extreme counterexample, I refuse to install GrubHub or Uber Eats or apps like that, instead just calling the restaurants dir

If you use a standard QR code, you can link to a web URL which does device based redirection to either the Apple app clip or the Google instant app, so basically anyone with a smart phone can use it. You could even have a mobile web fallbac

Websites support Apple Pay, sign in with apple, being loaded from a URL/NFC/QR code, location API access, etc. The main thing websites don’t support is push notifications on iOS, and it seems like that would be a lot easier for Ap

Exactly. I’m not a huge fan of Yelp but I used to use the mobile website occasionally. But they have been slowly crippling the mobile website over the years to force you to download the app instead. So now I don’t use Yelp anymore. I don’t

Most machine learning in use today is “train once (and maybe finetune) and then deploy“, not online, continuous learning. I don’t think the frequency of model updates is generally a good indicator of whether or not something is considered m

Yes. You’ll get a whole bunch of scary warning messages from the operating system warning you not to do it, but to my knowledge all android phones allow you to. It’s possible that some corporate management software might prevent this, not s

They do charge an upfront fee, it’s $100 per year for a developer to be allowed to publish an app, regardless of if the app is free or paid or uses IAP.

That would be great if I actually worked on a team who saw the light and used tabs. Unfortunately I haven’t had that pleasure in a long time, so no, I do not agree with their formatting choices to use spaces. I guess what I really need is

That personally bothers me a lot, as does the lack of home and end keys. Yes I know there are key chords to accomplish the same function, but having a dedicated key as part of your workflow makes a big difference. Maybe if I worked on my Ma

Seems like it would be a cool side project to create a minimal iOS app that simply acts as a share target for this. Similarly for android and Windows. That would make it much easier to send. You’d still have to either visit the site or scan
