You don't need to spend 10 years to become a fantastic programmer. Many people are clueless when it comes to how to learn things (this is why the question "how do I learn X" is so popular even when it has been answered many t

Ok but that's a terrible definition of talent because that's not what talent is. Inherent ability is much more important than people like to admit to themselves or others. The 10,000 hours thing is also a myth.

Creating companies should be as frictionless as possible. You shouldn't need to provide much information at all, and it should be extremely cheap. Some states do this pretty well, others not so much. I'd rather a library card take

I imagine you could make a convincing counterargument that Big Tech has done plenty of great things for developers at large. We could look to the historical example of Bell Labs under the ownership of AT&T, which brought us the C progra

It's reasonable to start from a point of "I think the earth is round, but why is this true?" Flat earthers, much like many conspiracy theorists, are generally not interested in logical reasoning, and prefer to invent elaborat

you can say the same thing about hypothetical people who assert 2 + 2 = 5. there's nothing cool about it, or people experimenting and starting to doubt that 2 + 2 = 5. nothing would be lost if nobody believed the earth was flat. this i

Knowing what functions and variables are is below high school level, and I'd say it'd be comparative to knowing basic greetings in a foreign language. I doubt that many students who don't go on to study math after high school

As far as the U.S. goes, I doubt students remember much of the math they learn, or gain much more competency in math than they would via a language course.

It's pretty embarrassing to live in a country for 10 years and not being able to use it for work.

If you're living in a country where you don't speak the mainstream language, living there is more than reason enough by itself to learn it.

you're very gullible to not take a side here. the idea that the same man responsible for something quite libertarian (pseudononymous distributed currency) would sue someone for saying he isn't satoshi in a court of law is insanity

if a VPN is right for your use case, ProtonVPN is the best possible solution if you want a moderate degree of herd anonymity from endpoints you visit. if you don't care about that, run your own VPN. those are the only two answers. Prot

My entire point is consistently that the point of college is a degree. It's completely sensible for the vast majority of people to go to college for the great economic benefits it provides in terms of job opportunities. This does not m

To answer your point when talking about colleges, people like being spoonfed because they are lazy. This is why video tutorials for, say, programming are so popular, and why you see people ask about how to learn programming from scratch for

Maybe I don't check [chat app] every time someone sends me a message. Let's say someone sends me a "hi" at 3:00 PM. I check it at 3:30 PM. I reply back. Person replies at 3:35 PM. I see this at 4:00 PM. An hour wasted! M
