I don't think it's totally unbelievable that they waited until after the election to release preliminary results. Waiting a week or two wouldn't hurt the timeline, and would significantly damage Trump's campaign. If I wo

You could also set a fish quota, and let people buy and sell their quota. Then the market sets the price, the government just has to decide how much fish is sustainable to take each year. Ontario has a similar system for emissions. Of cours

If you can have wiretapping you don't have E2E encryption. So I think this would be a ban on E2E encryption, not on encryption in general of course but I think that should be self evident.

What makes you think that this will reduce violent crime in any meaningful way? The guy who mugs you isn't going to go on Messenger and send out a quick "brb gonna mug someone" message. And they definitely won't if they

San Francisco's solution to everything seems to be to just keep raising taxes, and throwing money at things which don't work. At some point you have to realize that more money isn't always the solution, you actually have to f

It's pretty impossible to beat the $5 wrench attack (or in the case of the government, 5 years in prison) unless you have anonymity, which Bitcoin does a very bad job of.

Has there ever been any evidence that vote counting machines in the US have been hacked? I don't like electronic voting either, but I think it's pretty extreme to delegitimize every election over something we haven't actually

Or maybe cost just doesn't really matter to many companies. If using AWS helps you scale easier, and lets developers spend less time managing servers, that can be extremely valuable, especially at a company that is growing quickly. Who

The worst part isn't even listed in the article - Tesla is remotely disabling fast charging on all salvage cars across all networks, regardless of what the actual damage is. If it was just limited to the supercharger network I would so

I've lived in several major US cities and have never felt unsafe in any way. Feels pretty similar to Canada, main difference is that the news is more toxic, and the west coast has more visible tents than what I'm used to.

I really like the comment on the article that suggested making each icon focus on a single color. The icons look so much better, you can actually tell them apart without taking a few seconds to figure out which blob of color you are looking

Whenever I read a sentence with a period in my head, I read it in a very flat tone, since the period explicitly excludes any exclamation point, question mark, emoji, etc. So that makes it sound weird when someone uses a period in casual con

Sounds like a bad idea to me, at least for most people. The reality is that if you want to be able to get a good job in an area you are interested in, you will need to be able to work with others, and get up on time, and work at a task you

Mountain biking is super popular now in Ontario. The local trails are way busier, and bike shops are low on parts and bikes. Everything in the midrange (3k or so) is pretty well sold out.
