...do you have a GitHub repo for checklisting items for building a custom house like this? I'm nowhere near financially secure enough to even begin planning for something like this. But it'd be cool to look through the checklist a

CDNs are the best thing since sliced bread. Found this out both from ease of setting up frontends and the pain of setting up backends. I wonder if there's a way to build a database on top of a CDN, or a webapp backend (might just be so

Oh there's significant structural differences between cruise ships and ocean liners. Ocean liner's bow is strengthened for travel in adverse seas, and the stern is cupped rather than box-shaped to reduce roll. The superstructure i

I wonder if there will be a Cunard-like airline that flies older planes because people want to experience them. I believe Cunard (part of Carnival) operates the Queen Mary 2, the last running ocean liner on Earth. It does Southampton to New

Yeah this isn't a viable way to formulate public policy. It isn't new either, happened with the travel ban early on. Soft power, and even the viability of a country, depends on certain long-term guarantees, guarantees that the cur

I think this would be the first U.S. capital ship lost since WWII. It's also interesting that China, Russia, and now the U.S. have all lost carriers while undergoing construction / maintenaince in just the past few years: https:&

I don't think there's any harm in having an internal all-hands where labor and management can discuss how a company can forward social aims. Having a ban hammer come down like this gives the impression the company doesn't car

I've personally found that once I'm comfortable with something, I don't care for the freedom for something else. If I have a car I like, I don't care for the freedom to get another car. Freedom is really only useful to t

I remember talking to a technically minded friend about my clinical depression, and I remember how she mentioned building an app to help solve it. I remember thinking at the time how sometimes building an app isn't the solution to a pr

I feel like the more a head of state is punched from below without doing anything, the better he or she is. I think each insult that runs down the back is a great way to measure the worse paths and timelines not taken, a physical manifestat

Yup, CDNs and object stores are a dime a dozen these days. If one's too expensive or unreliable just move on to the next one. I believe this free tier doesn't run out after 12 months either.

How feasible would it be for a city to build publicly available wireless access points so that anybody who wanted to run a WISP can do so? I'd really like the option to walk away from a commercial ISP entirely if it's too painful.

I have a P1 Gen 2 with Ubuntu installed. My USB-C ports on the left side of my computer don't work for some reason (might be a cable issue). There really isn't any support from Lenovo for Linux. I'm fine with it for now, but

I actually wanted a 1080p screen, because resolution scaling support on Linux may not be all that great. At least it broke somewhat on a 4k laptop I used. I like the freedom of Linux, but I find the best support to be for the least common d

The more I think about this the less it makes sense to me. My understanding of UDP is it's supposed to be for heavy, lossy traffic where late traffic is pointless or harmful (like video streaming frames, if your frame is late better to
