Of course it is a moving goal post due to inflation, rising living expenses, etc.

WSL is still missing a lot of stuff. For example, there's no straightforward way to mount NFS shares in the Linux environment. I'm not even sure if it's possible, last I checked I don't think it is. It's a huge issu

You could virtualize it and use it as your main. I have not noticed any issues compared to a bare metal install, at least on High Sierra. With GPU pass through, pretty much performs the same too... I've maybe seen a 5% performance hit

It's not that hard to setup these days honestly, I think the requirement of having 2 GPUs is a turnoff for a lot of people though. And I think it's been catching on a lot more now that both Intel offers VT-d standard in most of it

Ubuntu w/Gnome is possibly the worst offender. I actually like Gnome a lot but anytime I leave my PC on for more than a day the UI gets incredibly sluggish. Just moving windows around gets choppy and there is a annoying pause whenever

I've been running a macOS VM on my Threadripper 1950X for awhile now. Passing through 8 cores with a GTX 1060 attached and it runs great. In the latest Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, no need to compile qemu from source either, the version from apt

If you aren't after a certain size or refresh rate, then 4K displays have gotten pretty affordable -- but if you want one with high refresh or a more exotic resolution things get quite expensive. Example, the Acer X27 which offers 144

No game out right now is going to leverage all those cores, while gaming it's not going to be pushing 250W. As far as heat, the Vega 64 GPU I've got draws way more power than that too. I don't think this product is really tar

Didn't Digg also force the new design on all users right away? I think that was a big mistake, at least Reddit are rolling this out to a subset of users first and then they can collect feedback before going live with it on a broader sc

Their customer portal / billing interface seems to be significantly improved on the new US OVH site. It seems like they plan on rolling that out globally eventually.

I only run Windows inside a VM now. The main reason I didn't switch to Linux sooner was because of games, but GPU passthrough works well enough now that I can dedicate my main GPU to a VM and get close to native performance (within 3-5

Most of those are engineering samples, no? Meaning they have no warranty. Aside from that they may suffer from various issues as these are basically test chips. I don't know if I would trust using them for anything important

If you're willing to stretch the budget a little, many OVH servers actually come with 500 mbps guaranteed. I have one that I pay $80 a month for and push 30TB monthly with no issues. Only issue with OVH is that you aren't going to

It probably wasn't the real Satoshi that posted the comment on that site. His @gmx.com email account had been compromised so it's very possible the poster gained access just by issuing a password reset. Some old CMS systems also i

Ads are one reason, some big networks still don't fully support HTTPS so publishers get a reduced ad pool (and potentially lower earnings as a result) if they switch over to HTTPS.

I'm torn on whether this will make things worse or better. I can see sites starting to adopt in-content ads more aggressively, which will be more difficult to block. Like the sponsored links at the bottom of news articles. I find those

For small-time miners, yes. But wouldn't any large scale operation run the risk of moving the market? By mining, they continue to amass coins without having to worry about this, so maybe that is a factor.
