Do you mind explicitly saying what views and what "mainstream media" you are referencing here?

The defacto standard matters. The vast majority of Swift programmers will be using Xcode, and I definitely immediately think of the pains I've had with Xcode when I hear Swift. For example, I don't know of any other good IDE envir

Ah yes, don’t give children _any_ responsibility with money until they are 16, and then just throw them into cold water and expect them to know how to manage spending.. Sorry for being sarcastic here, and I know how to raise children is a d

The problem for me (not parent) is that it is distracting to the point where I gave up reading the article. I have ADD, and it just made it impossible for me to focus on the content, which is unrelated to whether or not I may find it amusin

Out of curiosity, are you implying that "no hierarchy" is possible? And would "no hierarchy" somehow mean no politics, as your statement seems to imply? I'm personally convinced that "no hierarchy" or &quo

What is it with people and their strawmen. Squatting has, historically, predominantly targeted empty buildings like luxury rentals, offices, factories, churches, etc. Please show me a single example of somebodies primary home being squatted

I see how this statement makes sense for some, but many people in Germany, especially in big cities, drive a car only a handful of times a year, if they even have a license.

You must be from the US :) Believe me when I tell you that e.g. most Germans, probably most Europeans, have never had to deal with a cheque.

Why? If it’s not dynamic, why make your life harder and slower? Nothing beats a compare and jump compiled into your binary.

It’s too early to say, unfortunately (which is why my initial post was not super useful, admittedly). All I can say for now is that, in all likelihood, a _lot_ of customization will be needed. Ask me again in two months :D

Curious, I just started a project to integrate Backstage at a Fortune 500, with > 10000 repositories. It does seem like a good foundation so far. Their idea of what it’s supposed to accomplish internally is mostly the same as what this b

-1 Auth (in the form of broken access control) is literally _the_ most common security problem according to the OWASP Top 10 [1]. And I think people thinking it isn't hard does significantly contribute to this questionable honor. [1]:

I’ve driven this route many times, and it’s quite unrealistic to expect you would ever get much higher than 140km/h on average, except during the night from 00:00 to 06:00 or so. Since it’s mostly 2 lanes, you’ll almost always have peo

In the EU, menthol cigarettes have been banned for about two years now. The main argument appears to be that it makes it easier / less unpleasant to smoke [1, in german], thus it makes it easier for people to start smoking. Anecdotally

The author is arguing exactly that: remake spacing decisions every time you use a component, because that’s what many designers (most?) do. This is also true in my experience.

I think that allowing me to run whichever software I choose, on a device I paid lots of money for is, is a great service to society. Essentially the exact opposite of parasitism, especially considering these people are doing it for free.

The article is dated Thursday, 15th. I'm assuming that's part of the reason? E.g. Tagesschau [1] reports "at least 110 dead", but that's from this Sunday 18th at ~5:30 CEST. [1]: https://www.tagesschau.de
