Only tangentially related, but one of the best decision I've taken in the last years was to only work four days a week. Not sure how realistic this is in the US as a dev, but in Germany it's been fairly easy (third job where I

Also note that there is another response with a bit more details in it in a different (not closed) ticket from 2018: https://github.com/stedolan/jq/issues/1741#issuecomment-4306...

I personally live in Hamburg, one of the most expensive cities in Germany, and I've yet to see a developer salary above 90k. Juniors enter around 40k, seniors get around 60-90k depending on experience. That's not to say that salar

This is absolute bogus. Here's [1] data from 2019. With about 3500 Euros net income (works out to about 75k before tax if you're single) You're in the top 10% _of all households_. With two times that (so two e.g. a household

I highly recommend this tutorial series. It is paid, but has great content and pacing and walks you through a lot of the stuff you need to be productive in Blender, but it's not free: https://polygonrunway.com/ Before

I own several (wired) headphones which are either approaching or older than 7 years and are in perfect condition. Sure, some had the ear pads or a cable replaced, but just like stereo speakers, there's really not much you can do to rea

This only seems like part of the story, though. What do we know about other work these people do? Is Uber maybe a supplemental job because the primary one doesn't pay the bills? Also please provide sources if you make such claims :)

I fully agree with you. In a society where people would not have any existential fears, employed or not, Uber would not get away with what they're doing anyway. But I think the argument is orthogonal to what I meant. In context of the

Maybe I'm too left-leaning, but doesn't it feel wrong to deny people the possibility of seeing a doctor, calling in sick if they don't feel good or earning enough money to afford more than Ramen at the end of the month, no ma

That'd be amazing. Finally I could throw away all of my very good but obviously obsolete wired headphones and buy some AirPod Pro's instead* * battery not replaceable, buy new headphones every 3-5 years

This is a strawman. The argument wasn't that no left-leaning people would treat things as property, but that most conservatives would. As such, you're not attacking the actual argument with your point.

I think it’s interesting that they included a markup type. Based on the spec it’s „similar to XML“, so I suppose this markup is of their own making. It doesn’t seem like this would make transmitting XML or HTML significantly more efficient

I don't think the things you cite necessarily mean "Mozilla doesn't care about the privacy of it's users". There's always room for improvement, but "they're not perfect" != "they don't

I don't understand this stance to be honest. Do you also think that Apple's focus on privacy is wrong? Why would a company building a web browser not be concerned about the state of the web, the privacy of it's users, etc? Th

This is a fairly terrible take for a number of reasons, but let's assume good faith and indulge this. * What makes you think that, at any point, lower caste people had an on-average lower IQ? The same has been said for plenty of minori

The post clearly states the problems they were trying to solve, none of which are taken into account here (consistency, ease of parameterization,..) It seems like people are reading too many "X in Y lines of code" posts :D

Honestly I'd say you accusing the parent of a red herring is pretty much a red herring, given that the parent is very aware that the people in question are deaf. Your resource argument doesn't hold up either, especially with money

The point of the article is that there's glue code needed for this, I think. It seems like Rust also needs this, either through linker magic or extern C: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93
