The "beauty of Ruby" part is self evident, assuming you find Ruby beautify. Is there any documentation to back up the "Faster than Go" statement? I compiled and tested the HTTP server example, and pounded on it with ab.

Nice to see Linode adding another data center! Off-top, but (hopefully) interesting: We've been using Linode to host an Aerospike [1] cluster. They're one of the few cloud providers that give you direct raw access to the SSD drive

I remember trying to program some BASIC back in 1st grade, which was 31 years ago. I was terrible at it, but I was hooked. Fast forward to today: my 4th grader asked me the other day which language he should learn, and I was stumped. I ran

Some other data points to consider: a. The AdBlock Plus team has stated, "in it's current state there are still some issues, which render Content Blocking Extensions insufficient" to use as an and blocking platform. [1] b. Ap

I agree 100%. I'm just observing that it is one of the few external sources of influence I see change organizational behavior. Business people FEAR google's impact on their success.

As a consultant, I only see web site producers making an effort to curb poor web practices when Google forces them to: Google's move to boost mobile-friendly design in the rankings has driven us a TON of responsive design work. I wonde

I'm surprised we haven't seen any attempts at frameworks that try and solve this: something that allows you to start with a monolithic app, but is designed to split off bits and pieces into stand alone microservices. Or maybe this

Agreed. I guess the most amazing part is that you don't need C or C++.

So, let me get this straight: * You can write part of your app in Go * You can share that code across your Android and iOS apps? Is that right? If so, seems like a solid use case for Go. Until Swift compiles to Android...

Nothing, IMHO. However, I do like Go's much leaner memory footprint for server side software. At least, that's been my experience: the same code doing the same task takes up much less RAM.

Apple explicitly said they see Swift as a systems language... curious what people thing about that. Does it compete with C/Rust, or is it just a pipe dream/marketing message?

We started using Prometheus for a Go-based app in production a few weeks ago. So far, so good. They recommend starting with PromDash [1], their Rails-based visualization tool, but I didn't find the console-based templates [2] very diff

This keeps coming up on HN, which leads me to think a lot of people don't trust the 10x language, and/or they feel inadequate in some way and want to feel better about themselves. In my experience, there are 10x programmers (just

I think it goes to show you how important a brand can be. I wonder how much audience they lost moving from the AllThingsD to ReCode brand. Seems like a good move for Vox to jump on this, too.
