As a true multi-platform user I don't have strong feelings if Windows apps, or KDE apps, or Gnome apps are better. I've not much experience with Macs, but it usually also worked out ok. But yeah. Electron is usually bad, it gets w

Half-seconded. I wouldn't claim to have fully understood how the Qt licensing model works (and I think it can be different if you do servers, or deliver binaries), but it's definitely worth checking out your exact use case, becaus

I'd use Eudora (the binary built in 2007? with updated TLS) over Outlook any time in 2024.

OP seems to be ignoring sensibilities of maintainers and how seamless getting a PR in is per se, without looking at the changes at all. It may not be the norm, but I've seen occurrences of 3 smaller PRs taking longer to be reviewed and

I suppose that's either a big yikes or a "ah well, it somehow works anyway". No, I've not the faintest idea about details of game engines, one area where I happily stay on the customer side.

Modern powertoys have jumped the shark, it's now a single tool with many functions that puts itself into autostart and has nagging autoupdates. I still had the old version (like sysinternals) in mind, a collection of small hassle free

Just to chime in: doesn't seem to be non-US that is the problem, it seems to work fine from Germany. Still bad of course.

Observer pattern fits like a glove if you for example have a minimap that displays the same things as the normal map. Yes, you can solve it in a million other ways as well. "How can I use more patterns?" is never the right approac

Sometimes you simply can't describe how a thing feels subtly wrong. Atom was that for me, I tried it several times and it did nothing like I wanted it. VS Code was somehow different. I'm not the biggest fan but it's my go to

I guess it's even more important that if you don't use it for work, you will probably like 90% use it at home, or your own property where you know you will have power (and an extension cord). Not true for professionals doing work

Apparently there's blue and green Bosch tools and one is the pro line, as I only recently learned. Not sure if Würth is still around for tools, but we had Hilti and Würth for the most part. But I also inherited an old Oerlikon drill th

I'm more on your side than the person you replied to but buying stuff is just too expensive in most bigger cities, and even in commute range. Not everybody can work from home after all. Yeah, I probably could buy a house somewhere in G

My parents bought their kitchen in the 70s or 80s, had it in a flat, then another flat, then in a house, then in a flat again. For the first 30 or so years just buying additional pieces, then downsizing again. It might be slightly insane bu

Yeah, of course it doesn't line up completely but I simply have a ~15cm gap at the wall next to the window. Some people get a matching top plate and some boards to make it fit snugly but I've seen just as many kitchens that don&#x

I'm not 100% sure where the next public charger is here (quick research says: 1x 1.4km and 1x 1.8km) and one at Aldi closer to my apartment. For me this basically means an EV is completely off the roadmap. This is in Munich, Germany, s

That's more of an argument for decoupling though. Why can't I have a local permanently-updated "fetch mails via IMAP"-tool and then a mostly dumb GUI mail client that does not care about cipher changes for 10 years? If s

In Germany we're allowed to drink beer at 16 (everything at 18) and afaik if you, aged 15 to 17, are working somewhere that sells alcohol there isn't a law that's forbidding you to handle it.
