The book he mentions explains why Facebook and social networking sites work as well as they do. Have you ever wondered why Facebook never invites you to be friends with someone, its always "Your friend thinks you might know.." Just the tiny

I didn't think of it either, I read about it in a book from the library. I just applied the idea to your situation.

Suggestions? Always be polite to the Judge. Be on time. Do the background work to make sure you look good. i.e. did Jim turn over what he has worked on for the amount he is keeping. Thats sort of thing always goes over well.

Or possibly a deposit is what the client thinks it is. Unless its in writing or talked about as being non-refundable, then it could be anything. Anyone who's ever been involved in litigation learns very quickly that you don't always get to

There are some good points here. I would definitely in the future separate your costs from your work. Hosting is their cost. It should have been paid by them upfront, not from you. Its one thing you should require in the future. Not only wi

I was giving them the benefit of the bootstrapping doubt. But they don't seem to be around to talk about it.

I usually go for books first. The library. Check out what other sites are doing is big. Take a look at sites that attract a lot of users that love them. Flickr, some of the newer 2.0 sites especially. They have a way of connecting with thei

Its not very intuitive. Right now the design (especially the font) makes you look shady. Are you shady? You don't tell me you're not. In fact, you don't tell me much at all. Am I even a customer you're looking for? What can your service do

Marketing copy can go a long way towards solving this problem. If you "sell" people on how much you can be trusted, then more people will trust you. I think you need to do it better though. Now, that sounds bad at first glance, but only if

I would suggest working on your wording a bit inside the iTunes Store. It does well to describe it, but not so smooth when it comes to "selling" the app. I'd also play up the connection or the benefit between the iPhone app and your online

Or possibly it was done because it was the highest possible price you can sell your app for. And since the whole point was to show off your wealth, its likely $999 was picked for this purpose.

Ugh, I'm tired of the "march to free" crap. There's not always a march to free. Downward pressure, sure, but free? All iPhone apps will be free just like all software will one day be free. Anyone who believes that is just not aware of capit

How does your software fit in with the purpose of timesheet software? I know they're not the same, but people have to enter this information for timesheets to bill clients. I know that people put that off all the time, so if they had to do

Thats just a TC sound bite, and you should be skeptical until you try it. I'm sure there are a lot of things out there TechCrunch thinks will eliminate the need for something and it hardly ever does.

Thats what I was thinking. A phone directory can't be copyrighted. Stealing the database is a crime though. I think thats what the original question was really about: How far can he go?

I think you made a point against yourself there. If it has no barriers to entry, then what's wrong with publicizing it? Obviously, one person has already done it. Part of what entrepreneurs often do is think their ideas are unique. But some
