Excellent comment. Agree completely - the point of camping is to immerse yourself in nature.

One doesn't interpret "self-driving". The definition of self driving is something that drives itself. Period. Adding "full" in front of it makes it emphatic. It's the same as saying something is "free&

That's precisely what they are doing. They don't care about hate speech. If they did, they wouldn't have Trump ads on the YouTube banner. This is justification to get rid of apps they don't like.

In my experience (multiple clients in rural area) low speed (1.5 Mbps) with low (50 to 80 ms) latency will outperform 40Mbps/800 ms latency connections for video. Web browsing, of course, isn't really affected by latency.

I'd assume latency from endpoint to satellite back to terrestrial base station. I can get satellite Internet right now with 40Mbps down / 5 up, but the latency is 800 to 1000 ms, so it's slow.

It's not financially subsidized in Canada. My wife and I pay several thousand more in taxes than if we were roommates. I've always thought that was a great disincentive to marriage if one were logical.

I agree. Zuckerberg's greed has no limits. He can rationalize anything as long as he wins.

The money Trump and company have made from gaming the stock market is insane.

It should take one really good "lecturer" and then a bunch of TAs. The TAs would be lower paid off course. Would it be fewer overall all? Maybe not, but salaries would change.

Tipping isn't racist or sexist any more than language is, but you can have sexist or racist tippers. I won't eat at a restaurant that decides I must pay X% tip. I occasionally get tips at work when I do outstanding service, and i

During WW1 and WW2 people went off to war to die or at best come back scarred from the experience, or people sent loved ones off to war. They grew victory gardens. They lived with shortages. They survived. For years. A few months of loc

I like tower defense games, but it's a crowded market. You'll probably need better graphics or really amazing gameplay. One thing that's critical in my book: "Normal" mode should beat new players regularly until t

An observation and a question: 1) I'm glad I don't have this guy as a doctor. 2)If it's not a big deal, why is he wearing a mask in the picture? Catch covid-19, rub some dirt on it, and move on. If you die, you were going t

I have noticed that the downvoting seems to be getting more pronounced and often what I would consider to be uneducated opinions are gaining strength on HN. (IE people who don't agree with me.) :) I'm a newbie, but the reason I c

Looks very impressive, but it seems cripplingly expensive. I don't play with this much, but when I use my green screen, I'm often doing 15 minute videos, so it is well out of my hobby budget.

To be fair, the reason we have governments is to make our lives better. Legislation to help citizens is the point of government.

Renewable isn't really accurate for wood, at least not in human time scales. A maple takes about 25 years to mature. It's about three maple trees to a cord. Assuming 5 cords per winter, we're talking 375 trees before the f

When I saw the footage in the Watchmen, I thought it was a made-up event for the TV show. I was appalled to discover it really happened. I also think it's worrisome that this was posted 4 hours ago and mine is the first comment on it.

Actually, they are possibly rare. Rareness is a percentage, so as long as only 1% or less of planets are earth like, that's rare, even if there are millions of them.

I read something like this and I think, "this person is a psychopath". So order to "save" the economy (which is a social construct designed to serve the people) you would happily kill a family member? How many would yo
