A few weeks ago I got fed up with Windows 11. I remember I had to unplug my machine from the internet while installing Windows 10, and in a weak moment I must have accepted upgrading to Windows 11. It was probably bound to happen, because t

Any experience with USB-C dock and DisplayLink drivers? I tried openSUSE, but the only distro that seems to play with DisplayLink (or, actually it's the other way around) is Ubuntu. And I like Ubuntu as a server, but not as a desktop..

I was surprised when I installed Windows 10. It used to be a simple process to get rid of the OEM shitware, but now Microsoft has included a lot of shitware into the base image as well. I installed Linux last week. The biggest issue was USB

I host my own domain on my own server in my own home. It obviously isn't the easiest option, but there are a lot of options. I could pay a bit extra to Wordpress to get them to host my blog with my own domain. Or I could host a Wordpre

I remember reading Alan Cox online diary with interest. Short and down-to-earth. I guess I read it because it was updated regularly. This was before Facebook and Twitter, so anything that got regularly updated was a catch.

Talking about coffe makers. I swear to Moccamaster. At my grandfathers cabin, I've had coffee made from a Moccamaster older then me, and I'm turning 40 later this year. It just makes damn good coffee. Don't expect it to break

I remember Novells NDS (directory service) to be miles head of Microsoft AD back in Windows 2000, and even many years after. But AD was included "for free" in Windows, and the rest is history...

Reading his book, based on the blog I guess, it shares the same name, I learned how serious Microsoft are about backwards compatibility -- or at least was. A program not following the rules, but somehow worked in Windows 3.x but not in Wind

From having followed your site for many, many years, I look at it differently: It keeps getting better and better. Also, as you mention, it's a good reminder of what one can produce if one just put in the hours and keep at it.

I wouldn't mind the book price per se, but the shipping to Norway is whooping $304.50, so I guess I'll go for the Amazon version this time.

This is true even when installing a fresh copy of Windows. Microsoft have made some deals to include a lot of apps that gives you nothing. Zero. Well, unless you for some reason need candy crush on your laptop. If that's your thing, su

Cool project. Looks just like the editor I grew up with in MS DOS. These days I'm invested in Vim. I guess the choice boils down to "how much do you write" and even more down to "how much do you edit".
