I agree with you, I would personally stick with a wrapper class unless there was some ungodly number of resources to wrap. There are very likely other operations on a window object which will benefit from being able to wrap it in a class w

I don't think Chrome Remote Desktop lets you share a Linux desktop. I tried a few months ago and found it's a long standing (year plus!) request to Google on their support group. Kind of sad that Google can't or won't

Very polished kickstarter but I'm left wondering, do I really need an $80-$200 charger? The MacBook air charger is already pretty small and my phone lasts all day without the need to recharge. Although the tech inside it might be nov

I installed the 14.04 LTS beta on a laptop to kick the tires last week. Overall it seems really nice. I was happy to see GCC 4.8 is the default compiler. The only major glitch I had was hitting this bug where external debs (like Chrome, D

Sometimes the fastest solution to a problem is to get everyone in a room with a whiteboard and deal with it. There are ways to collaborate online, but none are as efficient as person to person. Also not everyone has a good internet connec

Nice project--I like the code, it's very clean and well structured. You should check out the subversion trunk of pocketsphinx, it has support for keyword spotting built in so you can do things like instantly recognize the persona keyw

I've played with implementing both SSE and websockets on embedded hardware, and SSE is nice because of the simplicity--no need to do a handshake or other setup like with websockets. If you're primarily sending data from the serve

Yep I agree. I've tried lots of to do lists, apps, etc. and always keep coming back to the pen and paper stuck to the refrigerator. Siri adding stuff to notes through voice rec worked pretty well, but it's a gigantic hassle to b

Ouch, I wonder if the fix will be to pull the feature. Kind of a bummer but I can understand there's probably a huge liability issue when it comes to smoke alarms.

What kind of patents do they have on the compiler tech, and is there any guarantee they won't go after you for using it? edit: Ah nice, Apache 2 license explicitly calls out a patent license is granted for use. I wonder how much cajol

Yeah I don't understand the need to get rid of a .NET framework dependency though. This only supports building Windows store apps, which only run on devices that have the .NET framework right now...

I'm kind of scratching my head here, can someone explain what problem this solves? There's already a CLR and already a way to build native apps for Win 8, etc. This is a new CLR that can run new 'native' apps?

WinRT lets you write native Win 8 apps in C++, however it doesn't use LLVM or .NET bytecode. If universal binaries are supposed to be supported across different architectures (like x86, ARM, etc.) I don't know of any other way to

One thing I don't see mentioned, do universal apps support C++11? I can understand why it's not as easy to support native code across platforms (i.e. need to do some kind of fat binary thing), but think it's a little sad to

Also very annoying to be thrown out of your app when you just want to run a calculator or something small. Even more annoying when that calculator has to run full screen (or you have to waste time snapping it to some side).

Good luck using .NET micro framework for anything serious. It runs as an interpreted language which is not good when you only have a few kilobytes of memory and a handful of mhz processor speed. There are big problems doing stuff like gen
