It's not like CCleaner was out to get you - they got hacked. It's like if your bank got hacked and your stuff got stolen. The bank didn't trick you. What should you do now? Never update an app automatically. Wait at least a d

You know, you could just mute them all except one. That's what I do - only #engineering and private messages are unmuted.

Good points but I know a few people that are more productive at work if they work out in the morning. I mean, they aren't running 5ks or lifting heavy lifts, but a few coworkers go for a quick run in the morning and they say it helps

I always found it weird how Apple allows reddit and Tumblr apps but does not allow 4chan apps - all three have the same amount and kind of porn.

Server rendered pages with little to no JS. -- The patent clause generates discourse because HN commenters love to state the obvious, particularly when it's off topic (e.g. an article about React performance has a commenter rushing to

The current "GitHub/your blog is your resume!!" movement has led to people who have little business writing didactic resources (not because of programming skill, but lack of research, teaching experience, and writing abilitie

The drafts were probably longer and worse. It's pretty normal to need a few people for feedback. Like the other commenter said, it's normal in writing.

I think buildings sites as PWAs is a good idea but it'll take some time for them to actually replace apps. As other commenters have said, user habits go straight to apps. And until Apple decides to support service worker in iOS Safari,

I did a lot after school ages 19-23. Now after work I want to play games, spend time with my girlfriend, watch movies, and read books. And if I want to code, it's to learn an interesting technology (sometimes I mix this with contributi

Wrong question - the right question is "which companies don't have the typical whiteboard interview". Mine didn't, and it's a regular software engineer job. Here's a list of some - never used it but was on here

Feel free to ignore/downvote me - just wondering: is this a thing people do? I certainly understand and support it, but I have never seen it happen at work (and I work in a start up, not some old boring enterprise shop). After eight ho

I wonder how many HN readers would be unemployed if the world went this way. It's pretty interesting to think that a good chunk of the people you comment with are the ones coding bloated websites (most likely not because they want to!)

I've heard that Reason is essentially what Jordan Walke (React creator) was trying to make with React. Maybe that's wrong, but he's the head of this project and it looks great. Also props to FB engineering for having faith in

Bootcamps are just too short. I think the sweet spot for a coursework in programming is a year to two years. That's essentially how long my university degree was if you remove the non-CS required classes.

npm code is a mess and contributing to it is a very slow process. Competition from yarn led to npm quickly adopting lockfiles and being faster.

Most great Erlang resources, like this and Designing for Scalability, are very much recommended for Elixir programmers. It'd be a shame for them to disregard some of the best OTP resources just because they're in Erlang.
