Except it's not really an analog at all. Microsoft didn't lose their antitrust case because of any of that - they lost because they were paying OEMs to not install software - and if they did, they were punishing them. The rebate

You are not a lawyer I presume. This isn't remotely related to tying - and buying an iPhone doesn't force you to buy anything at all from the app store. And it's completely unrelated to any commissions from the App store. If

At which point the QR is no better - and probably worse - than the stripe app and an NFC reader.

The five finger discount is a risk regardless of payment method and doesn’t have a bearing on which method is superior. NFC terminals aren’t expensive - especially since they can be a cheap phone now. QR without validating payment received

Unfortunately the bottom rung can least afford the fraud. If the currency is good enough to fool a street vendor, it’s probably good enough to spend with their suppliers. Not like they’re sticking it in a bank. I suspect those street vendo

Until everyone starts faking receipts, and then you’re back to terminals and someone validating they did receive a payment. Or they go the other way and they’re scanning your QR code. Basically, it isn’t actually better than NFC, just diffe

How do you validate I've paid and let me through with a static QR code for something like the metro, or a ticketed event, or even a coffee? How do you know they paid the right amount? I turn and show you my receipt, and you hope it

How is QR any different than NFC from a user perspective? Both require a terminal to be effortless for the consumer (an LCD or e-ink display that shows a real time QR with transaction details like amount, or an NFC chip that does the same

I think the issue is that there's always inherent risks to relying on external forces. And that you literally cannot avoid external forces. This isn't unique to Apple, and it's not arbitrary or capricious on their behalf.

I've never seen any Johnnie Walker airport bottles in plastic - at least not full size. I would bet they sell the mini bottles and pints in plastic - but their full size bottles have been glass in every outlet I've seen them.

They’re almost always money-losing ego flights. BA1 rarely flies full. The ego is right there in the number. It’s a novelty. SQ hasn’t operated business class only since like 2011. It has 67 business seats and 94 premium economy seats.

That's actually the inverse of the problem. Yes, 1.7Ghz doesn't penetrate well, but in cities you want density, because you have population density. Low band is still useful, but not nearly as advantaged as in rural areas. In ru
