Am I the only one tired of 'great resignation'-like manufactured trends created for clicks? People leave their jobs all the time.

There is no better fix than Bitcoin. Banks and governments will always try to be fiscally irresponsible by removing a gold standard even if it were brought back. Bitcoin is the easiest way to impose rules on the system. Let me know what you

I can't edit my comment but happy to include Republicans too. The Democrats have been more vocal about Bitcoin lately but agreed they're all part of the lobby machine. I have no love for either party :)

I am always surprised how HN folks fall in hook line and sinker for Democratic talking points from senators FAR removed from any understanding of technology and insistent on curbing basic internet freedoms. The previous version of this was

Very very cool. Did working at your dream job involve explorations + leaps of faith + backing yourself, or did you just organically get there with hard work and always choosing what you were excited about? This leaks into career advice land

Just as India is large and complex, so is everyone's experience. 59.5% of IIT seats are reserved for backward castes - that is HUGE in a nation full of students competing for the 40% seats available for the general category. The entran

I belong to a don't ask or guess culture where i would rather just lift a mountain myself than ask my friends for help just so I don't inconvenience anybody, or be in their debt on a favor.

Sounds very cool. Were failures punished by low ratings, bonus? How did they incentivize taking risks? Did the focus on being a leader make you stronger? Were Netflix employees from then valued very highly?

Wow that's so cool but makes sense! Is it not like that there anymore? They still hire experienced engineers, so I wonder what changed? As an aside, is there any low hanging fruit / interesting work left to do at Netflix?

Maybe. Russia's population is falling and Putin is getting older to the extent that such a war may not have happened 5-10 years from now. I am more worried about escalation, nukes, forever wars etc. Ukraine fighting for pre 2014 border

I agree but my devil's advocate response = I suspect that without enough incentive for a peaceful resolution, the more right thing (=seeking peace) falls out of favor. I know we've been told that Putin doesn't want to negotia

My response is here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35225339 Even extending this to a month for DMs is short enough. 6 months for group chats is better but not very satisfactory if one wants to refer to older chats.

I am a Xoogler. You can change the default to being a month for 1-1 chats, and 6 months for channels. That's still pretty low if you ask me. One has to be remember to copy paste useful messages over to your own personal notes. Ofc, as

I don't make such assumptions and have no understanding of what's right or wrong legally. I speak as a xoogler who hated Chat (featurewise) + retention policy and found it to exacerbate Google's sluggishness in shipping.

I don't mean that the US instigated the war or that Ukraine is somehow a puppet, but it is convenient for the US to not have to fight it and let Ukraine use US's weaponry, drones etc to fight this war. I am not Russian or a sympat

Everything is different at a granular level but similar at a higher abstraction. In all cases (SVB, BS), banks ran out of liquidity and had paper losses on current investments that would see them go under. Ultimately, if you run out of mone
