I imagine it would work quite nicely in Iceland, with abundant energy and little (any?) arable land. It’s arguably better than mining Bitcoin with that energy. You can also significantly decrease water use, which matters in places like the

I think the logic is that the scaling up manufacturing is already occurring in parallel, so it isn’t as simple as an N day delay causing N days worth of deaths. The excess deaths would be N times the (small) fraction of daily deaths that wo

Well, in Texas it varies from a minimum of 6.25% to a maximum of 8.25%, but 8.25 is indeed typical: > Texas imposes a 6.25 percent state sales and use tax on all retail sales, leases and rentals of most goods, as well as taxable services

People who have made a difficult personal sacrifice for their ideals often react poorly to that sacrifice becoming obsolete, and transform the now unnecessary sacrifice into a social marker. In this case: meat is enjoyable, but eating it is

Kind of. Incremental adds are possible with a Bloom filter, but not incremental removes. Resizing is also not possible, so you’ll want to redownload occasionally.

People can be irrational when it comes to their diets, but that doesn’t make them wrong. Some people care and some don’t. Restaurants tend to take the strictest interpretation of a diet because that minimizes angry customers.

I think most people my age (22) in the US use Facebook Messenger. It’s certainly how I do most of my communication. Facebook Messenger is like iMessage except you can generally assume everyone is on it. The main caveat is that you get the b

I’m sure this differs across people and companies, but in my experience a one-on-one Zoom meeting is often faster than the slack discussion would be. It’s similar to walking over to your coworkers desk to chat for things that are too longwi

The author makes a reasonable argument against using an income tax to pay for UBI, but Andrew Yang’s platform was to establish a Value-Added Tax, not an income tax. I don’t think that the same negative substitution incentive occurs with a V
