It could simply be that more people in China and Singapore are afraid to commit crimes. Their prison sentences and punishments are much worse. In 2022, they executed 11 people, the US executed 18. The US has a ~50x larger population. I&#

The problem isn't "solved." The problem is you have to deal with it in a way that most/everyone would be OK with and vote for. I don't think we can do that in the US. We could "solve" the problem like Si

Seeing this; > Charlie (Colorado) 6455 days ago Hurts, just a little. Actually, seeing 6000 days have passed since 2007 is making me close HN right now to go do something "productive." :)

> Elon Musk Accused of Doxxing After Reposting Judge John McConnell’s Daughter’s Job on X For re-posting a post that has a screenshot of a public linkedin profile? I'm not a fan of trying to ruin lives over petty political disputes

I'd understand selling if you feel a company will under perform, but to sell because of "governance" is just silly. I would wager there is no company that would truly meet their "governance" standards if they looke

This is one of the core problems and I don't think people want to admit it "can't be solved." When I was naive, out on my own after 18 I found a low-income/income-restricted apartment complex and thought I got a ste

Very cool. I don't believe in some "grand conspiracy" but the whole thing was very, very weird.

Just throwing my vote in for Stanford. Tbh, on the basis of nothing but what I hear about the two schools. Ultimately you should choose whichever you feel is best. Gathering feedback is a good idea but everyone will have their opinion&#x

This is seriously cool. I don't really subscribe to any conspiracy theories about the assassination _but_ it always seemed odd that the assassin was assassinated. I think there's more to the story... nothing mythical or extraordi

Growing up I would hear about the new "fastest" computer seemingly every other year. Wondered where they were now and how they're holding up. Surprisingly well, IMO. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_

Google support is the absolute _worst_. Maybe because they have a high volume of users or something but it virtually doesn't exist. I would pay $$$ to get any sort of support but that isn't an option either.

To suggest there hasn't been a cultural shift is insane, imo. I wouldn't argue that both sides have gotten more extreme, rather the political spectrum curve has flattened. There is much less rational discourse in general. Reddit

The straight up "shout out" in the pop-up, I almost couldn't believe my eyes. I don't think I've seen anything like it in a long time. I also don't think an American company would ever do that as it seems &quo

It sounds dumb/cliche but the answer is to simply make good content. Anything else would just be spam and then you're competing with other spammers.

The fact Twitter bought Vine and just shut it down still blows my mind. Sometimes I wonder what things would look like if they kept it alive. At the very least, I don't think Elon could have bought Twitter.

Yea. I'm not even arguing for any policies right now, just wishfully thinking it could all disappear. Policies are complex. Headcanon where short form content never existed is easy :)

I'm not addicted to it. I have a 15 minute timer and it locks me out of the app after 15 minutes... and even 15 minutes feels like too much sometimes. I'm not arguing that it should be banned. I'm saying I simply wish these

I've seen this TikTok thing turn staunch leftists into libertarians overnight. I think a lot of normal and applicable arguments aren't entirely valid when the company in question is more or less an entity of a political adversary.

I know its getting off topic but I never understood why people seemingly couldn't accept that. Current systems don't have a 1:1 with "hard work" and success/comp but its about as close as you can get, IMO.

Totally agree here... but I have no robotics experience to back it up. Seems at the very least it could have little quad wheel things so it doesn't have to worry about balance as much.
