One of my personal motivations for working less time in my full time job is to build a side project which allows me to quit my job completely

Ye I'm with you. I personally would like to see all jobs offered as as a fractional % (with some lower limit e.g. 3 days for 60%) - this is quite common in Switzerland for example. A 4 day week is a much easier "sell" in the

Same - I recently switched to a 4 day week for 20% salary reduction and could never go back. I'm fine to take the pay cut as other aspects of my life have improved dramatically.

Ye 9 hour days are pretty brutal - my optimal would be a 7 hour day, even for a slight reduction in salary

In years to come we will look down on the 5 day working week in the same way we currently do with 15hr factory shifts during the industrial revolution. It blows my mind that 99% of jobs are still 5 days / week, Monday to Friday - why i

Me too! This is why it works imo p.s. that phenomena is called "Parkinson's Law" i.e. work expands to fill the time allotted to it

Ye most of the jobs offer full time benefits (healthcare etc) but are for 32 hours per week (4 days x 8 hours usually) It's a fairly small number of companies atm but it's growing fast

I came to this realisation at the start of lockdown after experiencing burnout myself. As a result of this I launched: https://4dayweek.io (Software jobs with a better work / life balance)

The best way to deal with burn out is to start offering a 4 day week imo. I recently launched https://4dayweek.io to help normalise this - Software jobs with a better work / life balance

I'm totally with you, although if I'm being honest I think the fairer amount would be 90-95% of salary for 4 days. The only reason I'm pushing for 4 days (80% salary) or 5 days (100% salary) is to try and get companies on boa
