I'm a (mostly) self taught developer but I have taken some software related courses (assembly, C, data structures), so I have some semblance of a foundation. Still, I constantly feel 'behind' in my foundational knowledge compared to my peer

That's quite interesting, did you ever end up attending college at all? What are you doing now, and what did your parents do?

Huge kudos for the design of the site - it definitely gives off a Tron-like feel. I can't imagine the attention to detail to what amounts to just a game.

I wouldn't consider it one. Lifehacker isn't always about lifehacks and they also have good tutorials for things that some people aren't aware of. Many people I know think the only way to make coffee is with a drip coffee maker.

Hey Sandeep! Try the pourover method for coffee: http://lifehacker.com/5907612/make-your-own-pour+over-coffee... You might have to buy some filters and a holder for it: http://www.amazon.com/Cilio-Porcelain-Coffee-Filter-Holder/d... If

Sure, the depth of the content is not as good as other forums, but a peripheral point I think the article was trying to make was that the accessibility of such resources is what makes it so revolutionary. I'm an avid reader of r/fitness and

In my current meal plan, on my workout days I minimalize fat intake and maximize carbs/protein in a 40/60 split - the calculator suggests Greek yogurt or fish chowder for nearly every meal. Obviously, this is more on the extreme end of diet

For context, this is the next iteration of http://swole.me/ . It's a neat tool for getting a starting meal plan going, but some people have complained that the food variety is lacking. I can't eat only Greek yogurt for every meal.

Something I'd like to see is also the personal setup of the interviewee(s), for example, coding environment or Mac/PC preference.

As with any dotfile repo, I wouldn't recommend installing the entire thing at once. Instead, try and take the time to read through it and select settings that you want piecemeal. You'll end up knowing what everything does, especially in the

Judging from what you said about your past individualistic and highly niche projects, would you say that working at Google is a big reason why you moved away from your lone wolf attitude? If so, what advice would you have for a person who i

There's no doubting the legality of Padmapper scraping Craigslist data, so I think now would be a good time for him to innovate and really push his other product, PadLister. If Eric were to write another blog post, I'd make PadLister the fo

It's particularly insidious when you see that a large part of tech-friendly Austin is under the district as well. We are but a drop amongst the sea. Off-topic: I can't help but to note how meta your username is right now.

A bit of a meta question: As someone who feels like a 'B' or even 'C' at times, what would it take to become an 'A' player? Is it predicated on pure talent alone, hard work, or experience? Even though I know I'm still a junior developer (~1

In general, however, if you know you need Java and how to install Java as a dependency then in all likelihood you're savvy enough to avoid being infected.

Very interesting. Since it implements Blueprints, does it also have support for Furnace (graph algorithms)? If so, does this imply that graph processing is done on disk rather than in-memory? I am rather unfamiliar with Blueprints but I'm w

That's awesome, I was planning on using Play 2 to build a purely RESTful service for a weekend project but I wasn't aware of either Smoke or play2-mini. I'll be looking into the three of them now to see which one I would use. Personally, I'

This looks cool. What's the use-case for it versus using something like Play! 2.0 + Akka for async HTTP? As far as my limited knowledge of Play (learning it right now, so I could be far off), Play can do async HTTP and already makes use of

You could say the same about D2's economy - it became about MFing (magic finding) for loot that you could trade in for the equivalent market value in item currencies: Stone of Jordan rings, or later, charms and points on a 3rd party forum (

This almost seems unreal. What kind of latency would you be dealing with when your application(s) deal with many concurrent connections? For example, say a cross-platform multiplayer game with a persistent, shared world?
