Sure, but how many companies were hiring Senior Engineers with just a phone call? Zoom is definitely less disruptive than having to sneakily drive across town, let alone fly across the country on a weekday or two for in-person interviews.

What do you mean by "index plant for light intensity"? I have one and I've noticed that I've had pretty hard time keeping different vines of it alive, but the plant itself has done fine. It's definitely touchier tha

For me, it's not even about talking to them, it's often about watching. I often go to a nice place when I visit NYC and I explain to friends that it's similar to why someone would go see a Broadway musical, but with food. The

I mean, the answer there is "it varies" and "it depends". Probably something around 3-5 weeks. If you need a precise number to feel ok about the situation, the colloquial meaning is going to be enough to tell you you sho

I'm not asking you to "believe" in anything. There are just some companies where you can take 4-6 weeks off and some companies where you can't, and which one you're in depends on which team you work on and who your

Sure, but so is letting "unlimited" just turn into looting by the privileged or some sort of toxic "my manager won't let me take more than a week off". Which is what I've been getting at. People love to condemn

How is that possibly Apple's fault? Some people are hypocrites. Some people trust themselves more than their children. You're just stringing together random arguments you've had with people who happen to own Apple products an

Probably because "unlimited" is the relevant part to the part of the company that cares - HR. If it was limited, it would need to be tracked. I get the objection to the fact that you can't literally take 200 days off or whate

I'm sure it's possible to have a system where this is easy, but giving HR more things to track to prove their value to the company does tend to make no incentive for them to make it trivial. I'm sure systems exist for that th

To me, the most important part of unlimited PTO isn't the "unlimitedness" but the fact that it's not something I'm having to log in a system. It's that usually I can just take off a Friday or a Monday here and

I am very confused what you're trying to imply here? That Apple was intentionally not implementing child safety features before now and that's suspect but no one was questioning them? They've had various levels of parental co

That may be true, but that doesn't negate the question I was asking. At most companies I've worked at, most of the technical/developer types had OS X or Linux computers, and the people with Windows boxes tended to be people u

I mean, Australia has been putting forward insane tech bills to outlaw E2EE and demand backdoors for everything for years now. I don't think they're doing this because of the Apple news.

Some of the difficulty is that the team may be hiring people because they're currently under-staffed. I've been on teams before where we're 3 engineers on a team that we're trying to hire up to 6 people. It's really
