Lately noticing 3 big agendas being pushed in a more obviously biased way than I've ever seen before: 1. Look at how evil the tech majors are. 2. Save American institutions from Trump (worst offender was the lockstep outcry about troop

Not a great way to increase diversity, and totally incompatible with referral bonuses. A hidden cost here would also be exposing perceived statuses (eg an engineer who isn't as well respected would have their recommendations denied).

Slow CI and/or Code Review makes concurrent work a bit of a necessity. Context switching certainly has a cost, but it's cheaper for my employer than paying me to wait for tests to run.

Cloning from a template would be the what, but I was wondering if there are tools designed for this. It's the kind of thing that could spike complexity and I would want an established pattern of delivering html solely for the purpose o

In my most recent job search, I was really surprised to find that about half of my initial calls were with engineering managers, not recruiters. They're certainly in a better position to sell the company, but I found that I was uncomfo

I have a list of widgets and a button to create a new widget. I don’t want a full page reload when I create a new widget. What are some elegant strategies for handling this with SSR? I’ve used turbo links and found it rather clunky. Haven’t

This is my schedule exactly. Cutting coffee made it so much easier to just crash out at 10, which shifts “me” time to the morning when I’m more in the mood to be productive.

The article touches on a cultural shift in business leader salaries, saying that they didn’t demand as much because it would all go to taxes. Not sure how accurate that is, but if it were the case would that explain some of this phenomenon?

So far it’s totally legal to advertise on direct searches for your competitor. As of a few years ago it wasn’t uncommon to spend five figures or more monthly just to protect your brand. Looks like google has started regulating this just fro

I think mindless and complex might not be the right words to use here. I find google searching to be similar to writing. If I distill the question down to the crucial elements and use clear english, I get great results. If I throw all the e

My question is, would Apple default to different search engine if they weren't getting paid? Given Google's utter dominance in search, it would likely be seen as anti-user behavior to default to something else. This one and the fa

Was funny seeing the BBC article on "Office Space" yesterday talk about the switch to open offices without mentioning the backlash. Was sure HN would be up in arms.

As others have mentioned, it seems all backwards that each bulb is converting AC/DC internally, and does not appear to have much in the way of heat dissipation for the converter or the LED chip(s). I've built a lot of LED lighting

Much love for Stylelint. My last company had some unique style guide rules, and I was able to encode all of them in Stylelint with only a few custom rules. The custom rules were very easy to write and plug in, and everything auto-fixes. Abs

Looks very nice. Couple of nitpicks: 1. Tooltips go into a flicker loop when you hover over the tooltip arrow ( the triangle hanging off of the tooltip box ). 2. Dropdowns should close when you click a second time on the dropdown toggle.
