Most people don't memorize the commands for all of these, and googling for them everytime gets old.

Another one of the many horrifying things I saw in the article was the concept of an "Exit Visa" which I hadn't heard of before. I just read up on it a little here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_(doc

From what I understood, Billy didn't pay Bobby $200 for the code, he just paid out a portion of the prize money they received from Startup Weekend. From the tone of the emails, I'm almost certain Bobby didn't sign over his ri

Spent some time browsing around the demo. Sorry to be critical. This doesn't seem to be a web app that anyone in their right mind would want to use. It's all fun and games until your DB administrator gives you an Envelope built ap

I don't understand the financials on this. Unless this is a non-profit charity (and funded by donations), I can't see how Even stays in business. The key point as I understand it from reading: - if I make more money than the avera

Idea is fascinating. Aside from the political unfeasibility (people won't be convinced an earthquake will ever happen here), I'd be worried about technical execution. Could we really cause an earthquake? How many nukes would it ta

Looks great, I'm currently in the market for something like this. Can any users give their experience using this over other alternatives? What sort of issues do you run into with regard to speed and/or accuracy? Thanks!

To take a contrarian point of view, I have to agree with one of the chef's in the article. If I knew buying a prepackaged type of food would taste better to customers than what I can make in house 99% of the time, then wouldn't i

What % of HN knows what this means? Maybe this should be a blog post instead and explain what a "mining pool" is. Or what is the significance of one pool taking over the market.

Let's see, Microsoft is extorting $3.4bil a year off a technology it did absolutely nothing to contribute to (Android). The ill-intent is that they are betting on AR succeeding too so that they can extort money off that.

How stupid. Microsoft pays a bunch of people who invented a bunch of ideas that are now restricted from being used. What a joke the patent system is. We're paying people to innovate ideas, and prevent any product with those ideas from

Well, the former Reddit founder is on the team. And I seem to recall reading something about how that did that with early Reddit posts too (marking the voting counts much higher to make it seem like they have more users than they did). They

Agreed, I think there's a good middle ground. Lots of hosted APIs use open technologies, and I'm paying for the convenience of someone handling everything for me, without being locked into a single provider who will likely get acq

So any manufacturer who doesn't produce a product at a minimum level of the government policy is an idiot? It's as if you don't trust consumers at all. We need government policy to define exactly what chocolate needs to be, o

No offense, but I hate your business model. Convincing devs to put their search db in the hands of a small hosted startup is a recipe for disaster (see indextank). There must be a better way. ElasticSearch and MongoDB use open source busine

I ran into this. I only found out because ecolink went down for a while. So when I clicked on google search results, it would error out while trying to redirect. Valuable lesson learned. I never thought a chrome developer would be quite so

Agreed, I'll be instantly interested in buying a Nokia phone once they start shipping the latest version of stock Android (ideally without any bloatware and useless customizations that Samsung / HTC pushes). Elop needs to go now.

I still think it's the most probable scenario. If it were a group, there would be a lot more people who have incentive to go forward and "expose" the true story. There would be huge financial rewards for doing so. It's definitely plausible
