I still think it's the most probable scenario. If it were a group, there would be a lot more people who have incentive to go forward and "expose" the true story. There would be huge financial rewards for doing so. It's definitely plausible it could be an institution, or a small group. But I'd bet my bitcoins that it's a single dude.
