It's more subtle than that. Studies have shown that babies prefer gazing at attractive faces rather than average faces. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3631018.stm

I always thought the amount of times a comment gets read should be factored in to the karma score for the comment. For instance I'm posting this late in this threads life. If 10 people read it, and 7 up vote it, that's a very high percenta

I can't figure out the point of this website. From what I can tell, you enter in your idea, and it basically timestamps it for you. Then if someone else makes it big with the same idea, you can say "Hey I thought of that first." You seem to

I completely agree it's very easy for them to do that. But no you definitely need proof, especially when there's evidence disproving you. For example: Knol/Wikipedia.

"they could just pump their site in front of everyone else in the rankings (like they do with YouTube)." Is there any proof of this? The same thing was said about knol/wikipedia, and that wasn't true at all.

Interesting idea, but some studies have shown that social media can lead to depression as well: http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/311899/can-too-much-social-net... Basically people present and exaggerate the best of themselves online (highlig

It would be interesting to see if this effect held true for other countries too, or if it's prevalent in the US alone.

I've been looking in to this recently and the point he makes about flying crazy routes to get extra miles is a little off. It may work for some airlines, but I know for others you earn miles for how far your start and end points are apart

Well, you obviously have more insight in to the early days of digg than I do, but you're basically proving his point. You say you had significant equity but wrote bad code. That's not a very good formula.

Well, the bayesian filter is done by per user (if you sign up). The front page would be the aggregation of all the users. The category stuff sounds cool. I'd like to add text classification to this at some point.

It's cool, but is this really a usability issue? I don't think a user is going to see a violet link, realize they've visited it, then hover over it and still need another indication that they've visited it.
