It's an interesting idea, and could probably be turned into some kind of product. I'm envisioning a product that pulls factors from multiple sources: GitHub posts, articles from media, etc and rates companies by work/life ba

Why don't we just institute a national call tax of 1/2 cent per call? It would be negligible for any legitimate call, but it would totally break the business model for robocalls which require millions of calls to get through. I

If a company is hiring people who can't write code then their hiring process has huge problems. In my 15 years of developer experience at 5+ companies, I've never once met a developer who couldn't code. I don't know wh

the reason has nothing to do with the ones being let go. It's about the people who remain: they're gonna be working a lot harder when they see their colleagues laid off. No one wants to be next. It's like running away fro

but it doesn't have to be that way. even here in SF, we have DSG races that only cost 5$ for a 5K or 10K. Sure there's no timing chip or free bananas or trophies, but you get your time and a chance to compete against others. As

that's the main reason I don't do them. I think paying 150$ to run 26 miles is a world class rip-off. Movies last 2 hours and cost 10$ to attend. I wouldn't mind paying 10$ for a half-marathon.

So far they haven't really done much wrong. But, the problem is, the potential for wrong doing is so enormous. Google has so much power to control the fate of every business on this planet: I think this is just begging for abuse. It

it's a good point. I wasn't in the market for that type of service anyways. But, if I was at any time in the future, I'd look at other competitors.

I've seen patents that hinged on a single line of Javascript code because it was used in a context that has never been patented before and no prior art. Not only was it submitted, but it was accepted and is a patent now.

Seeing what republicans and democrats are doing to this country, i wonder if voters will start to consider alternative parties now.

I can only hope that voters learn something from all this and start considering alternative parties, rather than continuing to vote democrat/republican every year.

they didn't simply ignore it. they tried EVs before, there simply wasn't much demand for it at the time. Now that batteries are cheaper, things are starting to look different.

I know there's a lot of people for whom BI would help them do great things: I think this is a small minority that we in HN community are familiar with. But I grew up in a bad neighborhood, and I know a lot of people, who wouldn't

I suppose this could happen to software engineering jobs outside of the gaming industry too once we end up with an equal number of over supplied software engineers.

I don't see anything wrong with Flying cars, conceptually. I would love to be able to cut my commute time by 1/3, imagine all the new job possibilities, and how many more candidates companies will have. The problem is, maybe it c

Roughly almost 600 Billion is spent on the homeless problem. Unfortunately, due to the incredibly high cost of housing, that money doesn't go very far. It'd be interesting to see a breakdown of where exactly all that money goes.

The problem isn't the consumer who takes advantage of the system. the problem is the regulations that prevent consumers from choosing whether they want to pay that extra 2-3% that credit card companies charge the merchant. Right now,

3% is what the buying agent asks for. Without a buying agent, that's 3% the seller doesn't have to pay.

Not having a realtor as a buyer really helps, because you can add that 3% to the purchase price of the house saving you 3% which can be a huge amount in expensive markets like the bay area.

But, it's a little more than that for some. Some people are actually able to reduce cortisol in their bodies, regulate temperature, slow the blood pressure and a host of other bodily functions through power of the mind and breathing.
