I had this same experience. I am just glad someone took the chance on me, and has given me the opportunity to get experience. Although my situation was somewhat complicated - applying for entry level project management work and having a phi

This is cute, but at the company I work for, our conversion data demonstrates a statistically significant difference in conversion rates when the action is above the fold rather than below. It might be true that we don't need to design tiny

Keep in mind that this is a tech demo used to show a visualization of someone else's data (W3C in this case). So the author likely cared a lot more for visual appear and demonstrating functionality than for the way the graph might be interp

NHL, NBA, and MLB have online streaming options. I subscribe to NHL Gamecenter. $160 a season, and streams at 2200 kbps, which is good enough for me. Sports are slowly caving to the online demand.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm vaguely familiar with Ronald Bailey from one of my undergrad surveys - I will have to follow through with that promise to myself to read more of his work.

Yes, there was data involved in his studies. It sounds like you don't value philosophical knowledge - to that end I won't endeavor to persuade you of it's merit. I would advise you to read his work before you criticize it.

To reply to csallen's question about why being watched is evil - these answers are in part elsewhere in the discussion that's gone on about my comment already, but bear repeating. 1) It's not being watched that's evil. It's watching - my ar

What a fantastic last paragraph. Something from the original essay that was left out: "A future in which privacy would face constant assault was so alien to the framers of the Constitution that it never occurred to them to call out privacy

This is a great post. Points out two things: 1. That this really isn't about the safety of the performers, but more about the fact that people watching the films are exposed to people having unprotected sex, which influences their own actio

If Arrington is spouting off and doesn't have contracts in hand, he's severely hurt the credibility of FusionGarage among their core market for the product. A countersuit might be in order.

Ultimately, I think $499 is too much for a device that essentially browses the web, and that's it. My netbook will do the web and lots of other things. Like let me play Civ II.

This comment is spot on. To add, this story is from the perspective of the student, so he gives his professor (his self-admitted favorite) a bit of a shine. Nothing wrong with that at all, but a salient point to remember. That aside, I wish

The article references "Passage" a game written by Jason Rohrer. If you haven't played it, you should - it's extremely hard to describe, but in short, it is a sort of simulation of life. Not like the Sims - it's about 300 seconds. At the en

While I agree with his overall point, his last statement is confusing: "It's okay to make an ad that isn't easy to measure. If it works, that's enough." How do you know it works if it's not easy to measure? This is the thinking that leads t

I guess my only response to this is "where do we draw the line?" If a company is doing better after 1 year? 5 years? 10 years? And ultimately, that's for the board and investors to decide/influence.

Is this why people complain about the bonuses paid to bank executives, but not to people like Jobs? It's apparent that Jobs has done a lot of hard work and made Apple successful, but banking is a black box to most people. I think there's a

I was hoping this was an article about Leibnitz. For some reason, his Monadology is one of the only things I remember from my Modern philosophy class. Ironically, I spent the entire semester down with Mono.
