It is inefficient to produce and store, but do we have a more efficient alternative that can be rolled out at global scale? Batteries are more efficient at storing energy, but I'm not convinced we can build enough of them as quickly as

I use Zotero with Obsidian. I use plugins to autogenerate one note per reference, and then I can link to that note from my other notes.

I agree. I want to be able to be externally curious. Maybe it's about actually having an external goal and a strong (internal or external) motivation to achieve it.

as far as I understand, the US government does not protect the rights of EU citizens, so US-hosted services are not GDPR compliant. There was a special agreement to keep them legal, "privacy shield", which was taken down by EU Cou

I stumbled across this when it launched. Here's the talk by the artist that gives some background information: https://youtu.be/bp23r-Gtdkk Rather than talking about webcam permissions, I think we should talk about how

I got nerdsniped hard by this. If I can find the data, I might try to replicate the analysis for Germany. I learned that in Japan, it's quite common for neighbors to have the exact same address, if the entrances fall in the same number

I think it's pretty clear that conditions in many of today's farms really do cause unnecessary suffering for the animals. If we treat animals better, we can't produce as much meat. So, in order to get the general public on bo

MS Word can be lots of fun and is easy to get started with. For sure let them design their own birthday invitations and so on. I had a lot of fun as a kid playing Minecraft and building Redstone contraptions. Minecraft does invite tinkering

It's not clear to me that privacy-preserving ads do actually perform worse than intrusive ads. Maybe advertisers spend less for similar impact.

It might be a defensive acquisition. They don't want free word games to be out there. They want a monopoly on word games.

I agree. Matrix isn't quite ready for its prime time, but it's getting there. Synapse is getting more efficient with every update, and the spec is doing so as well. For example, they recently released the new sync API, which makes

My professor made fun of this article in yesterday's lecture. Nice to see it discussed here, too. The article does make a few solid points, but the conclusion isn't supported. Even automated Deep Learning based science draws from
