Interestingly there does appear to be a plateau or drop just below $100k. I wonder if this is around the transition point between being fairly well off, but still salaried and reliant on the salary, to being independently wealthy (or at lea

I agree - the service Apple are offering for recurring payments is that of a payment processor. In a competitive market that role takes 2-3% at most. And that percentage has been falling year on year as new entrants have entered the market.

The widely used definition of middle class isn't simply "median income". It's more complicated than that - education, profession etc all play into it. You could probably segment it by income, but even then median isn

When I was a teenager playing Dr Kawashima's Brain Training on DS, I had to completely change how I drew my 9s in order to get it to recognise them (it turned out I started in the wrong place for it to recognise the number). I only pla

This definitely seems the most feasible. Sure, plants aren't particularly efficient, but they're also self-reproducing and self-maintaining, which is a huge bonus. One interesting approach with plants is to pyrolise them to make b

PCs and even most laptops have been very repairable for decades. You can still run Windows or Linux on a 10+ (20+?) year old laptop without an issue. The idea that a 5 year old laptop would be unusable or not get the latest version of Windo

Every train in London, even the fully automated ones, have at least one person onboard. Maybe at some point that will change, but there's a lot of pressure against it.

This is an area I'd love to see more development - but the existing tools I've used all have quite major drawbacks. OpenSCAD is simple and relatively intuitive once you get your head around 3D space and how every object sits in i

Privately owned escooters in London are everywhere, and mostly ridden by local teenagers and young adults. I don't think they suffer from being uncool. Possibly because they're technically illegal - so owning one is a rebellious a

That's not a problem with scooter and bike sharing, but with that specific app. I've used a whole range of bike and scooter systems, some docked and some dockless, and mostly the apps worked fine. Scan a QR code, unlock and off yo

In the world of IoT, everything-is-an-app and disposable electronics, I'm increasingly appreciating "appliance" electronics. Things that do one thing well. I recently got a baby monitor - there's plenty of IoT enabled wi

Can you point out any tutorials or guides on how to set up kubernetes simply? I'm wondering what the best way to deploy my app with minimal effort is - you make it sound like kubernetes is the answer.

Currently grid scale battery storage is often deployed in shipping containers, which has the advantage of providing some level of isolation between packs, and also means they can be spaced out over a bigger area.

Not every open source project is polished. Fair enough - that's evident. However, that doesn't mean it's not useful. Sometimes a snippet from an abandoned project on GitHub is exactly what you need.

Are you looking at a different world than me? The current rate of technological process in the relevant areas - railways, tunnelling, bridges etc - is incredibly slow. Building a 10 mile tunnel under a city is still a multi-decade affair. T
