If Chrome made denied cookies by default and required an explicit opt-in caused by a user action (basically deter un-prompted cookie prompts like we managed to deter popups) then that would change very quickly. I wonder why they don't?

The whole "website asks" thing seems like a stupid political answer to a technical problem. If the browser denied cookies by default (like it does with location, or webcam access etc) then the problem would be solved. I suspect th

Cars need a lot of peak power. They don't use anywhere near that peak power during normal operation. A typical electric car averages 4 miles per kWh. At a speed of 40 miles an hour that's an average power of 10kW - 10% of that 100

It's easy to dismiss this as green washing, but there is some value to it for city cars. The amount of electricity generated is never going to be enough to fully power the car, but that's not really the point. If having solar pane

Even a system which has a short initial term but allows copyright to be extended indefinitely - for a fee, if you care - would work better than what we have now. Then Disney could keep their Micky Mouse copyright but we wouldn't have t

this seems obvious, doesn't it? Why would the utility spend all that money maintaining a complex and risky DC grid when they could just mandate AC - DC rectifiers. An elevator might be 25 HP( https://www.ecmweb.com/conte

This may be the first legitimate, legal, semi-non-speculative use for blockchain I've seen! That's pretty interesting on its own.

When you sell the captured CO2 on, how is it being used? Do the concrete producers use it in their concrete somehow? How long does it stay there? Carbon capture only works if we have viable long term solutions for the captured carbon dioxid

From a logical point of view, we could have spent that money on those venues without the Olympics. There was nothing stopping us spending £6.5bn on transport, or building flats in Stratford, or building a velodrome, without the Olympics. In

The price of standards makes me angry. They're essentially a form of legislation in many countries - to sell anything in the EU you have to comply with the relevant safety standards. Yet they're kept under lock and key - to read t

It seems like a lot of the problems stem from the definition of each microcontroller port being a different type. So you can't simply pass P0 or P1, you have to choose at compile time which one it is. I wonder if there's a bette
