I really hope this is true. Nothing frustrates me more than how much being in the top 50 matters, combined with how easy (if expensive) it is to game. Weighting anonymous, real usage information would be a huge boon and make rankings infi

On the ChromeOS notebook (and presumably devices that will launch), everything works. Flash requires a click because I want it that way, and full screen works fine (but the screen still dims on a timer, boo). It's actually perfect for web

When will I be able to use the latest CSS and HTML features without vendor tags in any browser? I'm tired of -wekbit -moz -o and -ms. I won't count any of them as supporting stuff until it works without vendor extensions, and I can finally

I think they also want any impromptu benchmarks people run to be as fair as possible. To the best of my knowledge, the latest FF and Safari both have all their supported hardware acceleration turned on by default. I've met some members of

The slowness is the memory card. I have a Focus with a high end memory card and it's great. WP7 software RAIDs (kinda) the SD card with the internal flash and treats it all the same. One nice thing about it is that unlike my Nexus One, all

It's far from terrible. The reason WP7 is on my primary phone is because the email, contact, and calendar integration is fantastic. I use Gmail (Personal) and Exchange (Work), and find Android is really annoying. I have to use two differe

Why can't I add my site's certificate as a DNS record, use DNSSEC and be done? I don't want to give Symantec (owner of Verisign) money or trust to do something I can easily do myself.

He clearly used Android first. WP7 tries to put everything right in front of you, and reserve menus and tap-and-hold for rarely used operations (like delete). Not to say there aren't problems with Windows Phone 7 right now, but: > On

Without WDE, how can you verify that the OS and apps haven't been altered? If a laptop with WDE is left in my control for days and then returned, you know you're still safe. Without WDE, you have to completely wipe the unencrypted portion

Why? I view all active, open-source projects as equal when it comes to language popularity. Github is great, but it's hardly the only place to host a repo.

I'm not really sure that looking only at github is fair. You'll find many more .Net projects on codeplex, and more of everything (though not necessarily in the same distribution) at bitbucket and sourceforge.

It still isn't if you want to be using the latest and greatest. Even Amazon only offer Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008. We're using the R2 editions of both.

We're not 100% Microsoft. Probably 80% though. We do it for security and privacy reasons. It matters less now, but for getting early carrier deals it was key, and now those agreements still bind us. I use Amazon EC2 personally and would l

We've noticed that even with fewer servers we can get better performance on the same load after migrating to IIS 7.5 from IIS 6.

You're absolutely right. I didn't intend to put words in your mouth. I've just had discussions before where that came up. Loopt was paying for licensing before we joined, and will be paying less after. I could be wrong, but as I understand

I can't reveal details but the graduation offer Loopt has received (a customized configuration) is fantastic. We'll be much better off at the end than when we started, and don't regret it for a second. It's absolutely not a bait and switch

I'm one of Loopt's co-founders. Loopt uses Microsoft's stack (the reasons why are off topic here), and was licensing Windows Server, SQL Server, and Visual Studio through the SPLA program before BizSpark was available. We joined BizSpark r

Wow. I'm sorry if my tone was off-putting, but what I said is true. End users won't get their devices for free and won't be forgiving. Sugar coating doesn't help the product succeed, which is what I want. Flash performance matters. Righ

I just got mine too. Sadly, as expected, flash brings it to its knees and fonts look like Linux :( Otherwise pretty sweet. Think I'll try and sneak some better fonts on somehow and then use it for everything save Hulu and development.

At Loopt we tried to do this. We made a hybrid app (Loopt Star), using web views for content and native code for tabs, Facebook Connect, modal dialogs, animations, etc. It didn't work. WebViews/Safari basically don't cache anything at al

I wasn't speaking literally about the XBox. Other approaches would limit the utility of the SD card (in the phone) and needlessly expose to users the difference between "flash" and "SD" storage. This is awkward and counterintuitive for use

Honestly, in most of the WP7 phones the SD card isn't accessible, so you'd never know. Does the locked hard drive on your xbox make you feel like a criminal? I have mixed feelings about DRM. As a developer I like the protections it offers,

This is one of many reasons Loopt has used SSL for all[1] traffic from the very beginning. At least WiFi has fairly limited range. Cell networks[2] (and satellite internet[3]) can be sniffed miles away. In addition to making session hijac
