Did anybody actually ever host "important files" on MegaUpload? I know people say they did, but did they actually? If they did that's just plain stupid.

Fair enough, but maybe he is not blogging it for himself. Sometimes this kind of thing is good to hear and motivating for those making their way up the ranks (so to speak). We can't all be brilliant programmers. Heck I'm not, but I've been

So you're saying only people who are rubbish at what they do should be blogging? Surely that's what YouTube is for, people with no talent to post some random rubbish about something that nobody actually cares about?

Not necessarily. The first may cause you to miss deadlines, piss of clients and ultimately lose the company money because you focused on code... I think it is important to balance both. But I get (and agree) with your point.

I know it's a joke, but it's lazy programming/lazy thoughts like this that caused the issues with the systems in the first place :) Although I still don't fully understand why leap seconds caused such a problem - we can handle leap years an

Fair point, and I'd agree with you - I'd defo go over clearer code than something purely for premature optimization... except I think the examples given were MORE readable afterwards, at worst you've ended up with optimised code! Problem wi

I think points 4 and 5 are just premature optimization.... The speed difference is meaningless. There's no such thing as premature optimization or meaningless speed differences. Would you say the same thing if the code was in Java/C#/Ruby

Which is as silly as those patents which essentially took existing ideas and added "on the web" to the end of them. Not saying you're wrong, just what everyone else has been screaming - the patent system is broken!

So does this mean if someone is found to have BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes then they have to pay Myriad Genetics Inc a license fee? Maybe we all need to take out licenses just in case, otherwise we'll get those patent trolls writing us nasty letter
