You can also do the same thing just with homebrew. I regularly replace a number of CLI utils because the BSD alternatives often have silly defaults/incompatible changes No gsed, just sed.

I used it for years, but it's been a while. I mainly used it because it brought some sanity to the whole Javascript landscape, especially at the time where many frontend libraries were pretty immature. Never really used it for anything
