I was your kid. My parents took the middle approach: skipping grades and doing gifted and talented programs. It still wasn’t nearly fast enough. Socially it was still tough for me. My only advice is don’t ignore the social aspect. Still t

I had a similar experience: I started college at 17 and with little effort could have started at 16. I did hang out with a 15-year-old at college and he seemed to have a relatively normal college experience.

The point of the article is that actually using a fine-grained MAC model is inconsistent with the way we actually use our tools. It requires deep understand of both the application and the model, which requires a lot of work.

The done vs destroyed dichotomy is a cross-cutting concern for programs that need explicit control over resource lifetimes. RAII is actually an antipattern in Python if you actually care about resources being released.

“ The init7 engineer met me in front of the building and explained “Hey! You wrote my window manager!”” That’s so cool. Very cool he got to participate in the upgrade process. I had 1G up/down through FIOS (Verizon FTTH) but eventuall

I don’t think it is loyalty. By your 40’s your pay is high enough that new offers to get another 20% come much rarer. The effort to find a new job has less upside.

I have similar experience at a FAANG. We have a good mix of 20 somethings through 50 somethings. Part of it is that FAANGs have explicit IC ladders, so you can advance without being forced to manage.

I had my kids young. I’m an empty nester at 45, and I happen to be dipping my toe into the dating pool for the first time in a very long time. Looking through online dating profiles, I’m genuinely surprised how many folks want to have chil

I’ve been using <companyname>@<mydomain> for over 20 years. Perusing my spam folder, adobe is the worst but still less than 10%. Most match the leaks listed in haveibeenpwned.com. I really need to put sales@ and root@ on my bloc

I agree, except I haven’t found a ChromeBook I’ve liked. For $900, you can buy an M1 MacBook Air. It is the sexiest dumb terminal I’ve ever used. I had used Linux on a laptop for about 15 years prior. It is a fine 90% solution. The Air is

The hardest thing to wrap my head around in Windows is how perfectly normal and common to load new code into existing processes. There are well-known APIs to do it.

Even with good insurance, medical costs in the US can exceed the savings of even the most thrifty. My uncle spent $1.7 million in 3 years to care for my aunt, and that is with excellent insurance.

You can simultaneously believe in democracy and believe that ceding one’s moral agency to the whims of the populace is immoral. We’ve had several recent examples of absolutely tragic uses of our military might. Voluntarily putting oneself

I’ve been interviewing since 1996. Out of 7 companies I worked for, two I got from knowing the owner/founder, 1 was short, and 4 were >4 hours. This is not new.

You’re literally arguing against the FLSA. Any dollar a customer tips counts as “tip credit” that an employer can deduct from that employee’s minimum wage. See https://www.paychex.com/articles/human-resources/tip-c
