You're absolutely right. But in the case of "twice as fast", if it is twice as fast under the right conditions then it's not exactly a false claim. Maybe the right condition for the phone being twice as fast is being within a short distance

I think the key thing here is the difference between marketing materials and facts. Marketing materials may be going for a certain tone or theme that may not coincide with fact. They exaggerate a little. They take certain liberties when des

It's the same sort of line as "5000 songs in your pocket" or whatever they used to say about the iPod. Some people read it and think "it's got enough space to hold about 5000 songs". Others read it and think of it in the context of a CD rac

It's not as bad as it sounds. A friend's iPod broke and I told her she could have the Touch since I didn't like it. I went back to my old one. The best part is that a few weeks later she was like, "I really appreciate you giving me the iPod

The article is clearly a review, and the point of a review is not to be impartial. Readers expect the reviewer to take a stand. The piece, arguably, should have been in the opinion section since that's obviously what a review is, but it's a

The iPod touch isn't exactly a big seller. I don't know a single person who actually likes it. I re-gifted the one I got for Christmas last year. My theory on the iPod touch is that it's a scheme to further cement in people's minds the asso

I don't think it's even possible to miss the point I was trying to make more than you already have. I was cautioning against making assumptions about a person who has stated a vague opinion without the reasons for having that opinion. And j

I had my doubts after reading the gigaom article, but the Reuters article I found mentioned a statement from a Cisco person saying it is a cost saving measure. I guess it's a safe assumption that employees will not be paid for these days. C

You don't have to be a jerk about it. My point was that there was almost no substance to this article and nothing to back up its claims. It's simply bad journalism. That's a valid point no matter what the reason is for the shutdown. We shou

There is very little information in this article. In fact, the headline pretty much sums it all up. A quote or two to put this in context would have been nice. The article implies the shutdown is a cost saving measure, but provides absolute

What is offensive about that post? Maybe I'm missing something or others are reading too much into it. He says he would not recommend outsourcing to India, Pakistan, etc., but would consider outsourcing to a qualified firm closer to home. T

Linode has been around a pretty long time now- I've been a customer for least a couple years. I think they're well past the point where we need to be worried if they're still going to be around next year.

Don't get me wrong- this isn't a blanket dismissal of IDEs. I was just responding to someone who was amazed that there are still people that write code in text editors. I believe in using the right tool for the job and there are cases that

Of course I don't memorize everything. I do memorize the things I use most often so that code completion is hardly necessary. This takes much longer to do when you have a crutch to lean on. I typically have my code on one monitor and docume

Even just typing can be slower in an IDE as it looks for ways to complete the code for you. Compiling in the background and code analysis takes a toll too. I also find the little completion popups distracting at times. Same thing with code

> Wow. It's amazing to find people who still write code in a text editor. Umm... Why? Personally, I find it amazing how much some developers rely so much on IDEs and are unable to write even the most trivial programs in a text editor. A
