I agree but painting the whole of macro with the same brush as undergrad is a mistake. Yes, undergrad textbooks are tedious and the content varies between the misleading and wrong (and I definitely agree about learning accounting and how th

Stigum's Money Markets will tell you about the financial system specifically. Something like The Economist's Guide to Financial Markets will give you a good general overview. Some of the recommendations on here are truly awful.

I had a conversation with a "very serious" economist the other day about monetary policy was basically solved, and that the Great Moderation proved that we were totally in control...$1.5trn...govt debt monetized, every time we pul

The music has stopped. The $10bn price is nothing to do with the product, it is just a negotiating tactic meant to the hold up the price. If they are lucky, they will sell for $2bn, and whoever buys them will end up writing down to $100m or

Yep, that is due to order flow from retail investors. They always put their orders in at the open (that is why Mondays can be risky) or at the close. You can see this by looking at the difference between the return on stocks in the first&#x

People telling you to hold off buying are idiots (the majority as always on here). This is what every mug retail investor thinks. They always get hosed down. They are usually the people who were in cash until 2018...because they were waitin

It is amazing to me that yours appears to be the only question that asks this. But yes, there are problems with this study imo...none of which are really addressed in the paper. Giving someone $100 to quit is kind of an "economist"

Look at the distribution of equity returns. A melt up would be 3%+ down, and people panicking (we saw panic towards the end of last week). A recovery would be stop falling or gain on the week. I would put the recovery scenario at far better

The top port does something like 4x the volume. Los Angeles is in the top 20 (just #17) but it isn't large. I just told you what the volume is (you can check for yourself, all of this is public information) for other ports. It won'

Los Angeles isn't huge. Arrivals in Shanghai/Shenzen/Ningbo (and to a lesser extent, HK) are definitely down and vessels are staying in port but the world hasn't stopped. Busan is fine, Singapore is fine, Jebel is fine,

We will either melt up tomorrow (which is basically inevitable at some point given historical performance) or we will start recovering. Just based on the data I am seeing, last week was a turning point. If things get worse this week, then w

Right, and what were 4OD's views? From what I remember, far fewer people used IPlayer until they moved to 30-day...which was 2014-ish. And your timeline isn't correct, as said I remember using it in 2007 which was before IPlayer l

They didn't have a lead. Channel 4 was first by a considerable margin. I remember using 4OD back in 2006/07, it was great. Iirc, IPlayer existed but it was very limited in what it showed. It took them years to move off a 7-day win
